Visto en el Jueves is the title chosen for the fifth album of cantaora Rocío Márquez. Born and raised in Huelva, she moved to Seville when she was 15 years old to balance her studies with a more solid training in flamenco. She has been living in this city ever since, on Feria Street, between Macarena and Alameda de Hércules.

It’s precisely this main road which, every Thursday since the 13^th century, has been closed to traffic to become an open market of antiques, second-hand items and all types of knick-knacks. That’s where Rocío browsed and rebrowsed until finding those slate records of Manuel Vallejo and Antonio Chacón, or the tapes of Pepe Marchena, Bambino and Concha Piquer. One day, Rocío spread all these records and tapes on the rug of her house, and that’s where the inspiration for this album came up.

The guitar, absent form her last two albums, is now back. There’s just voice, guitar and percussion. Yet, this is not a traditional album of cante jondo. This cantaora from Huelva continues treading the path started by her second album El Niño, released in 2014. She consolidates her very personal way of interpreting cante, aiming to blur the lines between palos and traditional flamenco styles. And seeking to erase the boundaries between cante jondo, folklore and copla.

It has allusions and tributes to her musical references: Rocío Jurado, Paco Ibáñez, El Cabrero, El Turronero. There are cuplés por bulerías, serranas, malagueñas, fandangos, peteneras and marianas, among South American songs, rumbas and Spanish copla. In total, there are 14 tracks, plus one bonus track which includes the collaboration of Kiko Veneno, who performs with Rocío the celebrated Andaluces de Jaén by Miguel Hernández

The promotional tour starts on March 28^th in Seville, at the Maestranza theater. Other scheduled dates are Madrid (April 10th at Teatros del Canal), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (May 4th at Parque Doramas), Granada (May 13th at Teatro Alhambra) and Barcelona (May 18th at L’Auditori).
