Kiki Morente presents his intriguing new album ‘El Cante’

The young Granadan makes his composing and writing debut on some of the songs on the record, which has been produced by Enrique Heredia El Negri, of La barbería del sur.

José Enrique Morente, Kiki Morente, is releasing his second album, intriguingly titled El Cante (Universal Music). The young Granadan cantaor makes his composing and writing debut on some of the songs on the record, which has been produced by Enrique Heredia El Negri, member of the legendary group La barbería del sur, and coproduced by Morente himself.

Following his first record, named after his place of origin Albayzín, on El Cante the youngest of the Morente family takes us to another place of the same flamenco cante jondo, his innate source of inspiration and musical origin. On this record, Kiki reflects on the current times for flamenco and music, as well as on the possibilities to create and compose from the desire to make something of your own, something universal. El Cante immerses listeners, encouraging them to delve into themselves, to discover, uncover and investigate.

In order to carry out this transformation from a classic flamenco sound, embedded in his voice, to a more electronic and contemporary sound, he was assisted by El Negri, Jaime Beltrán – from the Granadan group Pájaro Jack – and the Madrilenian gitano José Romero, who has brought trap influences to the electronic production. The new songs were recorded in Morente Studios (Granda) an Mestizopuro Studios (Madrid). The mixing was done by Fran Gude and El Negri in Kepplep Studios (Madrid).

Kiki Morente is as young as he is open to creating his own cante by combining some flamenco principles with other sounds. This is an album where freedom of musical expression is evident under the banner of creation and knowledge.
