Lineup of the 51th ‘Reunión de Cante Jondo de La Puebla de Cazalla’ presented in Madrid

Flamenco Madrid Theater hosted ‘La Reunión’ presentation gala with a recital by Pepe El Boleco and Rubito Hijo, joined by the guitar of Antonio Carrión.


On May 14th, 2019, Teatro Flamenco Madrid hosted with great success the Reunión de Cante Jondo de La Puebla de Cazalla 2019 lineup presentation gala. The oficial poster, by the local artista Patricio Hidalgo, was inveiled by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, from the Círculo Flamenco de Madrid, and by Miguel Ángel Rivero, Culture Councillor of La Puebla de Cazalla (Seville province). At the evento of this act, the public enjoyed a recital of cante flamenco by the young cantaores Pepe El Boleco and Rubito Hijo, and the veteran guitarist Antonio Carrión. The festival Will take place between July 5th and July 13th.

El 14 de mayo de 2019 el Teatro Flamenco Madrid acogió con gran éxito de público la gala de presentación del cartel de la Reunión de Cante Jondo de La Puebla de Cazalla 2019. El cartel, obra del artista local Patricio Hidalgo, fue revelado por Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, del Círculo Flamenco de Madrid, y por el concejal de Cultura de La Puebla de Cazalla (Sevilla), Miguel Ángel Rivero. Al término del acto, los asistentes pudieron disfrutar de un recital de cante flamenco a cargo de los jóvenes cantaores Pepe el Boleco Rubito Hijo, y el veterano guitarrista Antonio Carrión. El festival tendrá lugar del 5 al 13 de julio.

From Friday, July 5th, that town in Seville province will experience flamenco in several venues, from Sala Victoria to the  Museo de Arte Contemporáneo José María Moreno Galván to the Escuela Municipal de Música y Danza Manuel García Gómez, and even the Centro Penitenciario Sevilla II, where the inmates of the Center’s Flamenco Workshop will be able to showcase their artistic skills. The town’s squares, such as Arquillo Viejo, Cura, Melias and Convento, among others, will also be bursting with flamenco. The extensive cultural program of this festival will be completed by museums, expositions, conferences and other activities such as flashmobs and masterclasses. Among the artists who will perform in the first days will be Miguel de TenaMaría Jesús BernalJuanfra Carrasco, Alonso Núñez El PuriliLuis OrtegaGualbertoRubén Lara and Patrocino Hijo.

La Reunión proper will take place Saturday, July 13th, at La Fuenlonguilla ranch, where aficionados will attend until the wee hours. The evening will end with the traditional round of tonás. In this occasion, it will be presented by the great musicologist Faustino Núñez. The lineup is the following:

Cante: Manuel de la TomasaMontse CortésPepe el BolecoRubito Hijo and La Yiya.

Toque: Antonio Carrión, José Fernández PeteteAntonio Cáceres and Antonio García.

Baile: Fuensanta La Moneta and Luisa Palicio.

The Reunión, as it’s known among flamenco aficionados, was created in 1967 by the initiative of the great cantaor José Menese and the one who discovered him, the painter and poet Francisco Moreno Galván, both “moriscos”, as those who ae born in La Puebla are called. It was the later who gave the festival the aesthetic that endures to our days. Throughout its 50 editions, the greatest artists of flamenco cante, guitar and baile have attended the venues where it has taken place. This event is now considered to be among the most important flamenco festivals in the world, safeguard of the most traditional cante.
