The 4th ‘Biennale d’Art Flamenco’ continues its great success in Paris

Eva Yerbabuena, Rocío Molina, Tomatito, David Coria and David Lagos, among others, showcase their talent in the fourth edition of Paris’ Biennale d’Art Flamenco

Paris’ Théâtre National de la Danse Chaillot, in collaboration with the Bienal de Sevilla, has organized the 4th edition of the Biennale d’Art Flamenco. This event is taking place from January 26th until February 14th, 2020 and aims to offer flamenco of the best quality to its audience. This Bienal is a meeting point of seemingly opposite cultural poles, as attested by the production Magma, by Marie-Agnès Gillot and Andrés Marín, directed by Christian Rizzo. This show will be performed in several different sessions from February 6th until February 13th.

Andrés Marín, world-renowned bailaor and choreographer from Seville, will join Marie-Agnès Gillot, leading dancer of the Paris Opera, at the Suresnes Theater in the production Magma, under the artistic direction of Christian Rizzo, French choreographer and stage director. Magma was premiered in France in the last edition of the Cannes Festival. This show has been greatly anticipated by the loyal Parisian public and is now sold-out.

Besides this show, plenty of great flamenco artists renowned in Spain and all over the world have already showcased their talent in this Bienalle. That’s the case of David Coria and David Lagos, who performed Fandango at the Jean Vilar stage. Likewise, Ana Morales, presented her show Sin permiso/Canciones para el silencio, and Olga Pericet performed La espina que quiso ser flor.

Other highlights were the great Eva Yerbabuena performing Cuentos de Azúcar in Paris and Rocío Molina’s production Impulso. Finally, on February 8th, the Tomatito Sextet will present Soy Flamenco, which was also performed in 2019 Suma Flamenca. Everything is ready for cante, toque, percussion and baile in a show featuring Tomatito, his son, the young guitarist José del Tomate, cantaores Kiki Cortiñas and Morenito de Íllora, and the art and percussion of Piraña.

«I feel a deep and intense pleasure, because in my opinion flamenco is a very moving artistic expression, which tells deeply human stories through dance, music and song. The movements of the body, the rhythms and the singing are intimately intermingled. I believe that any person with sensitivity will be moved by this art form», stated Didier Deschamps, director of the Chaillot National Theater, in an interview to RFI.
