{"id":7015,"date":"2026-05-06T22:23:48","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T20:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expoflamenco.com\/revista\/?p=7015"},"modified":"2026-05-06T22:24:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T20:24:05","slug":"la-elegancia-jonda-de-rafael-romero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expoflamenco.com\/revista\/la-elegancia-jonda-de-rafael-romero\/","title":{"rendered":"La elegancia jonda de Rafael Romero","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hacia finales de los a\u00f1os 50 y primeros 60 del siglo pasado empieza a tomar forma el mairenismo, una manera de entender el cante flamenco defendida por el cantaor <strong>Antonio Mairena<\/strong> con especial \u00e9nfasis en el llamado cante gitano andaluz, sole\u00e1, siguiriya y ton\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>Antes del mairenismo, y durante d\u00e9cadas, reinaba la \u00f3pera flamenca, una escuela de cante adornado que hizo de eslab\u00f3n hacia la relativa austeridad del mairenismo. Pero si queremos buscarla, hab\u00eda <strong>entre el operismo y el mairenismo el reinado de la antolog\u00eda Hispavox<\/strong>, dirigida por el guitarrista <strong>Perico el del Lunar<\/strong> y grabada por la empresa francesa <strong>Ducretet Thomson<\/strong>. Ha sido un eslab\u00f3n importante en la transici\u00f3n entre el cante antiguo o cl\u00e1sico y el actual cl\u00e1sico que se podr\u00eda llamar camaronismo, sin perder la poderosa influencia del maestro Antonio Mairena.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta all\u00ed el carnet de identidad de aquella magn\u00edfica obra de Perico, la primera de su g\u00e9nero con la participaci\u00f3n de destacados cantaores de la \u00e9poca, <strong>Bernardo el de los Lobitos, Peric\u00f3n de C\u00e1diz, Ni\u00f1o de Almad\u00e9n, Antonio el Chaqueta, Jarrito y Pepe el de la Matrona<\/strong> adem\u00e1s de <strong>Rafael Romero el Gallina<\/strong> (And\u00fajar, Ja\u00e9n 1910-1991), el foco de este repaso y recordatorio.<\/p>\n<p>Es posible que el Gallina sea el int\u00e9rprete que m\u00e1s se destaca de la antolog\u00eda, y el que m\u00e1s presencia tiene. Hay un llanto org\u00e1nico en su decir. El poder de la dulzura por siguiriyas, ca\u00f1a, ton\u00e1s, peteneras, albore\u00e1, debla, martinete y mirabr\u00e1s. Siempre su sello inconfundible, con la original guitarra de Perico, quien ten\u00eda que ense\u00f1ar algunos cantes a los cantaores.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00abDolor que duele bien, dolor que sirve los cantes como son, y como nunca los has escuchado, un acertijo musical\u2026 Diosss, qu\u00e9 bueno el cante flamenco, c\u00f3mo enriquece nuestra existencia. Y ese rostro del Gallina con facciones ind\u00edgenas, un poema de emoci\u00f3n fuerte vivida que ha dejado su sello\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brotan los adjetivos\u2026 Dolor que duele bien, dolor que sirve los cantes como son, y como nunca los has escuchado, un acertijo musical\u2026 Diosss, qu\u00e9 bueno el cante flamenco, c\u00f3mo enriquece nuestra existencia. Y ese rostro del Gallina con facciones ind\u00edgenas, un poema de emoci\u00f3n fuerte vivida que ha dejado su sello.<\/p>\n<p>Con raz\u00f3n hizo Rafael Romero en una pel\u00edcula el papel de un indio norteamericano, clava\u00edto para el papel. Entre otras pel\u00edculas, tambi\u00e9n canta en <em>Brindis a Manolete<\/em> (1948), con un sobrio montaje de cuerpo de baile por petenera, un cante que llegar\u00eda a identificarse con el Gallina.<\/p>\n<p>Una voz desgastada en lo justo, siempre en busca de ese dolor de segunda mano que tan bien sienta en el flamenco. En 1973 la <strong>C\u00e1tedra de Flamencolog\u00eda y Estudios Folcl\u00f3ricos de Jerez<\/strong> le otorg\u00f3 su <strong>Premio Nacional de Cante<\/strong>, pero los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os de su vida eran dif\u00edciles. El madrile\u00f1o tablao <strong>Zambra<\/strong>, donde Rafael hab\u00eda sido fijo durante 18 a\u00f1os, cerr\u00f3 dos a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde y el genial veterano cantaor, tristemente desfasado, qued\u00f3 en la miseria.<\/p>\n<p>Rafael Romero cantaba al baile en las compa\u00f1\u00edas del <strong>Greco, Teresa y Luisillo, Antonio<\/strong> o en la <strong>Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla<\/strong>, adem\u00e1s de los tablaos de Madrid y grabaci\u00f3n en Jap\u00f3n. El \u00faltimo contacto con \u00e9l lo tuve en el bar Congosto, donde el cantaor sol\u00eda parar con sus formas de patriarca y porte elegante.
