The headquarters of the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco, entity dependent on the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions of the Ministry of Culture and Sport (Junta de Andalucía), hosted this Tuesday, November 5, the presentation of the I Flamenco Week 'Al Compás de Camas', which will take place from November 8 to 16. It will celebrate the International Day of Flamenco with performances of Ezekiel Benitez y Maria Tavora –on the 15th– and Jesus Mendez, Rancapino Emerald y Matias Campos on the 16th. In addition, the event has a series of educational activities to bring art closer jondo to the students of the municipality.
Christopher Ortega, director of the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco, presented the program together with the mayor of Camas, Victor Manuel Avila, and the Councillor for Cultural Promotion, Festivals and Events, Raul Medina, as well as the deputy for Culture Casimiro Fernandez. At the event, the public officials have highlighted the educational part of the Festival, recovered from 1975 and which has scheduled a series of workshops aimed at 3rd year ESO students to promote among the student community the knowledge, appreciation and development of the flamenco thus generating new audiences.
Specifically, these will be educational centers IES Camas – Antonio Brisquet e IES Tartessos Those who will participate in the different activities that begin on Friday, November 8 with a meeting in which the Ballet Flamenco Andalusia. It will be held in the Plenary Hall of the Camas Town Hall and students will be able to see first-hand the work carried out by the dance corps of the Andalusian public company directed by the dancer Patricia guerrero.
The 'Al Compás de Camas' competition seeks to offer students different alternatives for the introduction, approach and teaching of the world of flamenco with its cultural and educational values. And for this reason, composition and percussion courses have been designed that will bring young people closer to art. jondo. On the one hand, the composition task will be carried out by the project 'The Traveling Word' and the writers and poets Jose Maria Gomez Valero y David Eloy Rodriguez, who will propose writing their own lyrics based on their personal experiences through specific games and exercises. This work will help them to learn the metrics, themes and logic of some palos of the flamenco, such as soleá, bulerías or tangos. To close the workshop, the painter Patrick Hidalgo, author of the poster, will illustrate the result live.
'The flamenco box' This is another of the courses that will allow students from Camas to get closer to this art. Taught by Beats Music and Dance, the basic keys to learning to play the cajon will be presented here flamenco and, in parallel, know the rhythms.
Recitals at Victoria Kent Park
In addition to the informative activity, there is a series of recitals by cante, touch and dance flamencos in the park Victoria Kent of the municipality of Cameroon. Specifically, they will be on November 15 and 16, coinciding with the celebration of the International Day of FlamencoThe program will begin on the 15th at seven in the evening with the performance of cante by Jerez native Ezequiel Benítez accompanied on guitar by Paco León and the beat of Tate Nunez y Manuel Soler. Maria Távora will perform the dance, accompanied by Manuel de Gines y Cristina Tovar al cante, with the guitar of Daniel Mejia 'El Carqui'.
The following day, the scheduled recitals are those of Jesús Méndez, accompanied by Pepe del Morao to the touch and beat of Diego Montoya y Manuel Salado, and Esmeralda Rancapino, who will do the same with Paco León's guitar and the rhythm of Edu Gomez, supported by the percussion of Ramón Torres. The dance will be led by Matias Campos, with the guitar of Antonio Santiago 'Nerd' and cante de Miguel Lavi y Jesus Flores.
The programme is completed with the exhibition Flamenco Project, which can be visited at the Rafael Alberti Municipal Public Library from November 8th, and the concert Tirititran, flamenco for babies, in the same space on November 15 at noon.
The presentation ended with bulerías to listen to with a touch of dance from María Távora, the cante by Manuel de Gines and the guitar of El Carqui.
