To commemorate the declaration of Flamenco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the City Hall of Merida y Merida Flamenco They have scheduled a handful of activities for the month of November with workshops, master classes, performances and a flash mob.
"This is the sixth edition of the program Flamenco Heritage and History of Mérida, and this year there will be workshops, master classes, performances and a flashmob through the streets of the city," explains the delegate of culture of the City Council of Mérida, Antonio Velez.
The events begin on Monday, November 11, with a get-together at the cultural center of Nueva Ciudad. The idea is for the students of the different flamenco academies in the city to get to know each other. In addition, on Friday, November 15, in the Plaza de España, there will be a performance by the four schools of Mérida from 17 p.m.

On Saturday, November 16, coinciding with the Day of the Flamenco, the performance of Diego Andujar in Plaza de España starting at 14 p.m. Afterwards, a flashmob will be held for the first time flamenco which will start in the Temple of Diana and then a tour of the streets to the Arch of Trajan and Plaza de España, where the flashmob will be repeated. It is expected that half a thousand people will participate in this event.
Diego Andújar himself will give a master class starting at 19:30 p.m. at the Cultural Center of Nueva Ciudad on Sunday, November 17. That same day, the Mérida Flamenca Association will present its new show, Essence. In this montage they show the evolution of the flamenco as a leitmotif, through actions that collect from the flamenco from the oldest to the most current. This will be the first time that Mérida Flamenca presents its show with live music, with a great line-up of artists.
The repertoire of Essence It lasts approximately one hour and fifteen minutes and will accommodate palos of the flamenco such as bulería, tangos, guajira, alegrías and a final dance party. Two shows are planned at the María Luisa Theatre, at 17:00 p.m. and 19:00 p.m. at a price of 5 euros.
