Una noche habl\u00e9 dos o tres horas con\u00a0Antonio el Chocolate<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>sobre la manera que ten\u00eda de estudiar los cantes cuando era un adolescente y me cont\u00f3 cosas muy interesantes. Entre otras, que no estudiaba nada.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Yo escuchaba a los cantaores, y a las cantaoras, en las reuniones. A La Moreno<\/strong>, que apenas ten\u00eda voz. Al Ni\u00f1o Gloria<\/strong> de Jerez, que acab\u00f3 muy pobre. A\u00a0Arturo<\/a><\/strong>, el hermano mayor de\u00a0Pastora<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0y\u00a0Tom\u00e1s<\/a><\/strong>, del que guardo dos o tres seguiriyas.<\/p>\n

\u2013 \u00bfY no escuchabas discos de pizarra en una gramola?<\/p>\n

\u2013 No ten\u00eda ni para comer. \u00bfC\u00f3mo iba a tener para una gramola o para discos, que costaban el jornal de un obrero? En la Alameda hab\u00eda bares con gramola y a veces me sentaba a escuchar los discos de\u00a0Manuel Torres<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0o\u00a0Manuel Vallejo<\/a><\/strong>. Pero yo aprend\u00ed en los cuartos y escuchando a los artistas en los teatros o las juergas. Ese aprendizaje era mejor que el de ahora.<\/p>\n

Me cont\u00f3 Chocolate que un d\u00eda lo llam\u00f3\u00a0Antonio Mairena<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0para que le canti\u00f1eara un cante por ton\u00e1s de Arturo que el maestro de Mairena del Alcor no le pudo coger en reuniones porque no tuvieron buena relaci\u00f3n debido a un altercado con \u00e9l una vez muerto Tom\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

\u2013 <\/em>Antonio quer\u00eda saberlo todo sobre esa ton\u00e1, y se la tuve que hacer varias veces. Era su manera de aprender, por eso era quiz\u00e1s demasiado t\u00e9cnico.<\/em><\/p>\n

Chocolate no se atrevi\u00f3 a decir demasiado fr\u00edo o cerebral, aunque lo pensaba.<\/p>\n

Han cambiado los modelos de aprendizaje y, por tanto, la manera de cantar. Siempre hubo imitadores, en todas las \u00e9pocas, pero ahora hay quiz\u00e1s m\u00e1s que nunca. De hecho, los que m\u00e1s festivales hacen no son precisamente cantaores \u2013o cantaoras\u2013 con un sello propio, sino seguidores de un cantaor u otro. Y no creo que haga falta dar nombres.<\/p>\n

Chocolate me habl\u00f3 de su estilo de fandango.<\/p>\n

\u2013 <\/em>Cuando yo era un chiquillo, en Sevilla cantaban fandangos hasta los municipales. Hab\u00eda veinte o treinta genios que te part\u00edan el alma, y no hablo de esos a los que tenemos en la cabeza, como fueron\u00a0El Carbonero<\/a>,\u00a0El de la Carz\u00e1<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0o\u00a0El Sevillano<\/a><\/strong>, que eran figuras, sino aficionados que vend\u00edan en las plazas de abastos o que trabajaban en la Cruzcampo. Mi estilo de fandango tiene mucho de aquellos fandangueros an\u00f3nimos a los que yo escuchaba en las tabernas de la Alameda o la Macarena.\u00a0Al lado de los cantaores de hoy, de los nuevos, aquellos eran genios.<\/p>\n

Hay que desmentir categ\u00f3ricamente que hoy todos los que cantan hayan aprendido de los discos. No creo en eso, aunque se haya dicho muchas veces. Yo mismo he visto a\u00a0Arc\u00e1ngel<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0de fiesta, cuando era casi un ni\u00f1o, escuchando a\u00a0Enrique Morente<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0o a\u00a0Paco Toronjo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0en Huelva. Y lo que habr\u00e1 vivido desde ni\u00f1o\u00a0Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>en su Jerez natal escuchando a\u00a0Juan Moneo\u00a0El Torta<\/em><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0o a\u00a0Fernando el de la Morena<\/a><\/strong>. O\u00a0Rancapino hijo<\/a><\/strong>, que era solo un ni\u00f1o cuando ya escuchaba a todos los grandes acompa\u00f1ando a su padre.<\/p>\n

Entonces, \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 nos resulta hoy el cante tan fr\u00edo o cerebral, sin que generalice? Es, al menos, lo que escucho decir por ah\u00ed a muchos aficionados. Quiz\u00e1 la obsesi\u00f3n por la perfecci\u00f3n t\u00e9cnica, no s\u00e9. Los amplificadores de la voz, quiz\u00e1s. Seguramente la forma de vivir, que es muy distinta a la de hace ochenta a\u00f1os. Chocolate era de esta opini\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
