No es, por tanto, algo despectivo, aunque pudiera parecerlo. Tom\u00e1s sol\u00eda decir que <strong>Antonio Mairena<\/strong> era \u201corejero\u201d, porque met\u00eda mucho la oreja. Que era raterillo, vamos, como se suele calificar a los que aprenden de esa manera. En el se\u00f1or Mairena, eso se comenta siempre como una cualidad, por su afici\u00f3n. Es sabido que si le hablaban de alg\u00fan cantaor gitano que hac\u00eda unos cantes raros o geniales, se iba a Jerez, el Puerto o M\u00e1laga a meter la oreja. Luego, esos cantes los procesaba y hac\u00eda casi siempre una obra maestra, como ocurri\u00f3 con los tangos de <strong>El Piyayo<\/strong>, las soleares de <strong>La Jilica<\/strong> o los tangos de <strong>La Calila<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00abTom\u00e1s Pav\u00f3n sol\u00eda decir que Antonio Mairena era \u201corejero\u201d, porque met\u00eda mucho la oreja en las reuniones para pillarles cosas a los dem\u00e1s cantaores. En el se\u00f1or Mairena eso se comenta siempre como una cualidad, por su afici\u00f3n\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Es algo que no solo hizo Mairena, como es l\u00f3gico, sino casi todos: <strong>don Antonio Chac\u00f3n, Manuel Torres, Pastora, Marchena<\/strong> o <strong>Caracol<\/strong>. Este \u00faltimo, que fue un genio creativo, buscaba a <strong>La Moreno<\/strong> en la Alameda de H\u00e9rcules, se encerraba con ella en un cuarto y se emborrachaba escuch\u00e1ndole sus buler\u00edas por sole\u00e1 o para escuchar. Y hac\u00eda lo mismo con <strong>Macand\u00e9<\/strong>, al que escuchaba desde la tapia del centro mental gaditano donde estaba internado Gabriel. Luego, Caracol era tambi\u00e9n un cantaor \u201corejero\u201d, seg\u00fan la teor\u00eda de Tom\u00e1s. Entonces, en aquella \u00e9poca, el cante se aprend\u00eda de esa manera, aunque ya hab\u00eda discos de pizarra, pero no era f\u00e1cil hacerse con una gramola, sobre todo para familias pobres.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antonio el Sevillano<\/strong> me cont\u00f3 un d\u00eda en su casa que sol\u00eda ir con <strong>Joaqu\u00edn el de la Paula<\/strong> a escuchar discos de pizarra a una tienda de Alcal\u00e1 en la que vend\u00edan discos y cat\u00e1logos. Joaqu\u00edn escuchaba mucho en esa tienda los discos de Manuel Torres y Chac\u00f3n, los dos genios de la \u00e9poca. Eso era tambi\u00e9n meter la oreja, evidentemente. El cante se aprende escuchando. <strong>Camar\u00f3n<\/strong> ven\u00eda a Sevilla con frecuencia a escuchar al <strong>Chiquito de Camas<\/strong> y buscaba en Jerez al <strong>Torta<\/strong> o en M\u00e1laga al <strong>Chino<\/strong>, porque era un gran m\u00fasico y los grandes m\u00fasicos, todos, se nutren de la m\u00fasica que les rodea y de los artistas que les gustan. Jos\u00e9 Monge adoraba a <strong>La Perla<\/strong> y al <strong>Chaqueta<\/strong> e interpret\u00f3 sus cantes pasados por el tamiz de su prodigiosa garganta, pero sin calcarlos.
