Estimado don Manuel Romero Pantoja<\/strong>, Romerito<\/strong> en los carteles:<\/p>\n

Los aficionados al flamenco solemos tener un coraz\u00f3n tan grande como un ba\u00fal y en ese cofre guardamos todo lo que amamos del cante. En mi coraz\u00f3n siempre ha estado usted y su m\u00fasica, como un verdadero tesoro. Era solo un adolescente cuando iba detr\u00e1s por los festivales, porque me gustaba c\u00f3mo hac\u00eda el cante de Juaniqu\u00ed<\/strong>. Aunque no le segu\u00eda solo por eso, sino por su singular timbre de voz de gitano fino, que le serv\u00eda para darle otro aire al cante a\u00f1ejo de Jerez. Tiene lo que llamamos un sello propio.<\/p>\n

Un d\u00eda nos presentaron y desde entonces hay una amistad sincera y cari\u00f1osa entre nosotros. No empalagosa, porque en cuarenta a\u00f1os solo he estado en su casa una vez, esta, para entrevistarle en su salsa, en su hogar y en su barrio, el Pol\u00edgono de San Pablo, que no es el Barrio de Santiago, pero casi, por la cantidad de flamencos que han vivido y a\u00fan viven en \u00e9l.<\/p>\n

Influy\u00f3 mucho en mi concepci\u00f3n del cante, aunque no lo sepa. Me encant\u00f3 siempre esa naturalidad suya cuando cantaba, sin ojana, ni teatro. Maestro del cante sin grandes pretensiones, pero maestro al fin y al cabo. Jerezano de pura cepa, aunque emigr\u00f3 a Sevilla, mi tierra, y le adoptamos como persona y como artista. Jerez es a veces taca\u00f1a con sus hijos m\u00e1s ilustres.<\/p>\n

Lo que m\u00e1s admiro en un artista, sea del g\u00e9nero que sea, es la humildad y usted es la humildad y la sencillez personificadas. Podr\u00eda presumir de muchas cosas: de frescura, personalidad, perfecta vocalizaci\u00f3n y comp\u00e1s, pero no lo hace porque es natural, sin artificios. Digno de una escuela de cante, la jerezana, de tan insignes hijos cantaores, y cantaoras, que ten\u00edan ese mismo sello, como Isabelita de Jerez, el Gloria, Juan Mojama, el Sernita, T\u00edo Cabezas, T\u00edo Borrico, La Paquera<\/strong> o Terremoto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Visitar su humilde hogar ha sido una gran experiencia, la de comprobar que un grande del cante grande puede ser feliz en un piso de una barriada humilde, de trabajadores. Me consta que sus convecinos se sienten honrados de tenerle en la comunidad, verle pasear cada ma\u00f1ana o tomar caf\u00e9 en el bar de su calle, con gente sencilla que van o vienen de sus puestos de trabajo. Alguien de ese barrio me dijo un d\u00eda, con orgullo: \u201cRomerito es de los nuestros\u201d.<\/p>\n

Es usted de los m\u00edos, don Manuel Romero. Forma parte de mi vida porque mi vida es el cante puro, entendiendo lo de puro como sinceridad y autenticidad. No se puede ser ya m\u00e1s puro que usted, o sea, m\u00e1s sincero y aut\u00e9ntico, y ha sido un honor haber estado en su casa con su hijo Antonio, al que tanto aprecio como guitarrista y como persona. No cambie nunca, maestro, que est\u00e1 bien como est\u00e1. Que solo cambian los que no saben por d\u00f3nde van.<\/p>\n
