Le he visto y escuchado tantas veces en mi vida, en Espa\u00f1a y fuera de nuestro pa\u00eds, que he tenido la inmensa fortuna de vivir muchos de esos momentos en los que se le enredaba el duende en la garganta y me volv\u00eda loco. Lo he escuchado tambi\u00e9n en privado, echando un ratito entre amigos, y no hay ahora mismo un cantaor que sea capaz de lograr que te rompas la camisa en una reuni\u00f3n con un simple fandango. Pero, \u00bfes de verdad el cordob\u00e9s un genio del cante?<\/p>\n<p>He seguido su carrera desde que no era apenas conocido, antes de que grabara <em>La fuente de lo jondo<\/em> (1986), que fue el disco que lo lanz\u00f3 a la fama. Aquella obra sonaba a revoluci\u00f3n no solo en el cante, sino en la guitarra de acompa\u00f1amiento, con un joven <strong>Vicente Amigo<\/strong> que tra\u00eda cosas novedosas. Sin olvidar al compositor <strong>Isidro Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong>, una persona fundamental en la carrera del cantaor gitano de C\u00f3rdoba. En ese disco no hab\u00eda nada que no mereciera la atenci\u00f3n de un buen aficionado, desde las alegr\u00edas (<em>Huellas de gaviotas<\/em>) hasta las soleares (<em>Caracoleando<\/em>), sin olvidarnos de los tangos de El Chino (<em>C\u00f3mo quieres que te quiera<\/em>) o los fandangos homenaje a Juaqui el Limpia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00abEl Pele ya no es aquel caballo desbocado que era a veces, descontrolado por su propia emoci\u00f3n. Ahora canta con m\u00e1s temple, marcando mejor los tiempos en cantes como la sole\u00e1 o la seguiriya. Ahora es, sin duda, un gran maestro\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Luego vinieron otros discos de \u00e9xito, pero el Pele hab\u00eda hecho ya el que lo inmortalizar\u00eda. Hizo cosas muy interesantes y, a pesar de que hab\u00eda veinte grandes figuras, se hizo un hueco en los grandes festivales tanto nacionales como internacionales. Pero el cantaor se fue apagando y hasta lleg\u00f3 a tener problemas de contratos importantes. Parec\u00eda que se iba a hacer el amo del cante y no pas\u00f3 ni mucho menos eso. No era f\u00e1cil estando ah\u00ed <strong>Lebrijano<\/strong> o <strong>Enrique Morente<\/strong>, por ejemplo. Y cuando parec\u00eda que se iba a quedar ah\u00ed, en la cuneta, quemado, ocurri\u00f3 algo y, como el ave F\u00e9nix, renaci\u00f3 de sus cenizas.<\/p>\n<p>La afici\u00f3n supo que ten\u00eda una enfermedad delicada, pero vino a la Bienal de 2012 a cantarle por sole\u00e1 a <strong>Manuela Carrasco<\/strong> en el Patio de la Monter\u00eda y arm\u00f3 la marimorena. Entre esa noche m\u00e1gica y la idea de que se fuese de la vida, el mundo se hizo <em>pelista<\/em>, pase la palabreja. El Pele volvi\u00f3 a estar en todos los grandes festivales y hasta cambi\u00f3 su manera de cantar, m\u00e1s reposada. Ya no es aquel caballo desbocado que era a veces, descontrolado por su propia emoci\u00f3n. Ahora canta con m\u00e1s temple, marcando mejor los tiempos en cantes como la sole\u00e1 o la seguiriya. Utiliza mejor sus condiciones y sabe exponer de otra manera sus conocimientos. Ahora es, sin duda, un gran maestro.<\/p>\n<p>Pero, repito, \u00bfes el Pele un genio del cante? Estando en el Festival de Jazz de Montreux (1991), el cantante y productor <strong>Quincy Jones<\/strong> hablaba de las genialidades de El Pele. \u00bfEs un genio?, le pregunt\u00e9. \u201cNo, es genial\u201d, me respondi\u00f3.
