He was born on May 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 1964 in Mairena Del Alcor (Seville Province), in the midst of a family with a great flamenco tradition.<\/p>\n<p>Known in his early years as <em><strong>Ni\u00f1o Carri\u00f3n<\/strong><\/em>, he\u2019s the son of <em>cantaor<\/em> <strong>Jos\u00e9 Antonio Carri\u00f3n S\u00e1nchez <\/strong><em><strong>Carri\u00f3n de Mairena<\/strong><\/em> (b. Mairena del Alcor, 1932), grand-nephew of <em><strong>Cancuna<\/strong><\/em>, related to <em><strong>Cascabel de Mairena<\/strong><\/em> and to <em><strong>Ni\u00f1o Segundo<\/strong><\/em>, that innkeeper of Castilla Street who dazed his patrons with his <em>sole\u00e1 de Triana<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>Musa Flamenca<\/strong><\/em> is an award bestowed every year by the <strong><em>Fe<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>deraci\u00f3n Provincial de Sevilla de Entidades Flamencas<\/em><\/strong>, which is made up by seventy-five cultural associations with a common goal: the promotion of flamenco. The bronze statuette, created by the sculptor <strong>Jes\u00fas Gavira<\/strong>, is the highest award granted by this Federation. Among the recipients of this honor in the last decade are the guitarists Manolo Sanl\u00facar and Ni\u00f1o El\u00edas; entities such as the Council of Seville, the <em>pe\u00f1as flamencas<\/em> \u201c<em>Pepe Montaraz\u201d<\/em> of Lebrija and \u201c<em>El Gallo\u201d<\/em> of Mor\u00f3n de la Frontera; and the <em>cantaores<\/em> <strong>Calixto S\u00e1nchez<\/strong> and <strong>Miguel Poveda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the awards that Carri\u00f3n has received through his long career are the <em>Premio Nacional 2008 de la C\u00e1tedra de Flamencolog\u00eda de Jerez<\/em>, the 2010 <em>Bienal de Sevilla\u2019s<\/em> <em>Giraldillo<\/em> for the Best Guitar of Accompaniment and the 2002 Latin Grammy for the Best Flamenco Album, accompanying <strong>Chocolate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A few days ago, Antonio Carri\u00f3n received this letter from the Federation:<\/p>\n<p><em>The Board of Directors of the<\/em> Federaci\u00f3n Provincial de Sevilla de Entidades Flamencas<em>, gathered on January 26<sup>th<\/sup> in its headquarters on 1 Dante Street, Seville, agreed by unanimity, considering your dedication, career path and collaboration with the <\/em>pe\u00f1as flamencas<em> of this Federation, to award you the <\/em><strong><em>Musa Flamenca<\/em><\/strong><em>, the highest honor of our Federation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Such award will be handed over at the <strong>9<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> <\/em><strong><em>Encuentro Anual de Pe\u00f1as Flamencas de Sevilla y<\/em><\/strong><em> <strong>Provincia<\/strong><\/em>, which will take place on October 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 2019, at 12 noon in the <strong>Teatro Enrique de la Cuadra de Utrera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The ExpoFlamenco team warmly congratulates the master.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00abAll awards are welcome, but these are the most satisfying ones, because they\u2019re a recognition of a long career, in my own land\u00bb\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":9076,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[172],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9143","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-actualidad-en"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
