C\u00f3rdoba, February 11th, 2019 \/ Photos by Carlos &amp; Julio Porcel<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We took a bite off the apple and, as expected, it was delicious. A hundred loyal fans came to\u00a0<i>Pe\u00f1a Flamenca de Nueva Carteya<\/i>\u00a0to cheer their idol. And since we\u2019re here, please sign the album, and let\u2019s take a selfie, because no one can sing any better. The renown of Alonso N\u00fa\u00f1ez Fern\u00e1ndez\u00a0<b>Rancapino Chico<\/b>\u00a0(b. Chiclana de la Frontera, 1988) goes beyond flamenco. We can attest to this by looking at the long line of fans, album in hand, parading towards the stage after the recital, seeking an autograph of this Gypsy\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>, like in a holy week procession,\u00a0<i>v\u00e1lgame Undiv\u00e9<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Six prayers, six, prayed the artist in his temple. \u201cI feel at home, and I feel for you the same love that you feel for me\u201d, was the greeting of this\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0from Chiclana to the audience and to Pupe L\u00f3pez, president of the\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1a<\/i>. He gets ready and motions his accompanist to set the guitar on six and a half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlonso has a great gift: he\u2019s able to stop time\u201d, stated the great Julio Porcel in his wonderful presentation. And times stops, indeed: his two first verses por\u00a0<i><b>sole\u00e1<\/b>\u00a0de C\u00e1diz<\/i>\u00a0stopped the clocks and also stopped people\u2019s breathing. The\u00a0<i>oles<\/i>\u00a0multiply with the\u00a0<i>sole\u00e1 de Triana<\/i>, cradled by so many fans. Emotions overflow when Alonso sings the\u00a0<i>macho de Paquirri<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Second mystery:\u00a0<i><b>alegr\u00edas<\/b><\/i>. Rancapino Chico emulates his father emulating Aurelio de C\u00e1diz. Rocking like the sailboats in Ca\u00f1o de Sancti-Petri. Traditional and personal lyrics takes us through the N\u00fa\u00f1ez Fern\u00e1ndez family tree, to the Chicle neighborhood and La Fuente Street.\u00a0<i>Que a mi ni\u00f1o Juanito le gusta C\u00e1diz<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Alonso announces\u00a0<i><b>fandangos<\/b><\/i>\u00a0before the intermission. He evokes Caracol, perhaps too much. \u201cThis is from El Almendro, that\u2019s from El Gordito de Triana\u201d. \u201cDon\u2019t cry, Carlos, this is just the beginning\u201d. When the\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>stands up and sings in the style of Antonio de la Calz\u00e1, the public sobs. Now it\u2019s time to discuss the\u00a0<i>cantes<\/i>\u00a0in the bar. Some clear their throats, others clog them with tobacco. It\u2019s flamenco, after all.<\/p>\n<p>The guitar of\u00a0<b>Antonio Higuero<\/b>\u00a0Pazos, (b. Jerez de la Frontera, 1969) calls us back to our seats. It\u2019s a Mariano Conde Guitar, made of cypress and rosewood, which cannot possibly sound more\u00a0<i>flamenca<\/i>\u00a0in his hands. Celestial tremolos introduce the\u00a0<i><b>malague\u00f1as<\/b>\u00a0del Mellizo<\/i>\u00a0(the\u00a0<i>chica<\/i>\u00a0and the\u00a0<i>grande<\/i>). Poetry played with the left hand. Antonio will take to Jerez the\u00a0<i>oles<\/i>\u00a0he gathered inside his guitar in Nueva Carteya. Where will this love take us? Wherever you want, Alonso. Yet, don\u2019t forget the\u00a0<i>seguiriya<\/i>, calls out a veteran aficionado in the back of the room.<\/p>\n<p>There was no\u00a0<i>seguiriya<\/i>, something inexcusable in\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1as<\/i>, guardians of traditional flamenco. It\u2019s also true that we never saw so many young people in a\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1a<\/i>. Food for thought. Instead of\u00a0<i>seguiriyas<\/i>, we get\u00a0<i><b>tangos<\/b>extreme\u00f1os<\/i>, those of Camar\u00f3n and Marelu. And those of Paco Cepero, too, quite a statement of principles:<\/p>\n<p><i>Antes me toc\u00f3 perder,<br \/>\nahora me ha tocao ganar,<br \/>\ntengo a mi ni\u00f1o Juanito,<br \/>\nque no se puede aguantar.<br \/>\nRancapino yo me llamo\u2026<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Antonio Higuero\u2019s\u00a0<i>rasgueos<\/i>\u00a0make the public delirious\u00a0<i>por\u00a0<b>buler\u00edas<\/b><\/i>. Let\u2019s listen, please. Silence returns to the\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1a<\/i>. Yet, emotions cannot be supressed, and we all know how to clap\u00a0<i>palmas<\/i>\u00a0too. Who can resist those lyrics of Juanito Villar, Pansequito, and Perla de C\u00e1diz? Rancapino climbs on Caracol\u2019s love boat, finishing with the boat of Remedios Amaya.
