She admits that she didn\u2019t expect her career \u201cto advance with such giant steps\u201d, although she somehow dismisses the expression \u201cget lucky\u201d: \u201cit\u2019s not like that, I work hard each day to have a place, succeeding in making a living with\u00a0cante<\/i>, and proudly wearing my family name\u201d. The thing is that Rafaela Soto Heredia, born in Madrid but settled in Jerez, is burdened with an unquestionable responsibility: keeping the name of her family at the top of the ladder, which was the place occupied by her grandfather, father and uncles. In that sense, she feels the obligation to vindicate \u201cthe essence of being a Sordera, the daughter of Vicente and granddaughter of Manuel, because this surname demands achieving the highest levels, although I will never say it\u2019s more a burden than a privilege, because I\u2019m very proud of belonging to my family and this defines my style of singing.\u201d<\/p>\n
This young\u00a0cantaora<\/i>\u00a0presented her credentials at the Festival de Jerez in February, where she joined her father in the presentation of his album ‘Coplas del desagravio. A la mujer<\/i>\u2019, singing\u00a0buler\u00edas<\/i>\u00a0full of flavor and\u00a0comp\u00e1s<\/i>\u00a0which, in Lela\u2019s voice, acquired the musical and melodic richness characteristic of that style from C\u00e1diz. \u201cSinging with my father gives me peace and security, I don\u2019t feel more nervous or afraid, even as he\u2019s really demanding, but that\u2019s the way he should be, as a father and as an artist\u201d, said Lela, regarding her performance in this festival.<\/p>\n
In the next few days she\u2019ll be performing at Pe\u00f1a Curro de Utrera, on Saturday, April 7, and the following day she\u2019ll be back in Madrid to sing the Gypsy anthem ‘Gelem-Gelem’ in a forum dedicated to this culture. She is already booked for April 26 and 27th, as she\u2019ll be performing on the first date at Los Jardines de la Moncloa (Madrid) and the following day at Alcal\u00e1 University in Henares. In May, with several dates pending confirmation, she\u2019ll perform at Seville\u2019s Teatro Central, at Pe\u00f1a El Mami, in Madrid, and also in Barcelona. One of the highlights of that tour will be her performance at Madrid\u2019s\u00a0Suma Flamenca<\/i>\u00a0on June 23. One festival she considers \u201cspecial\u201d will take place on July 7, at Jerez\u2019s Plaza de Toros, when the master Pansequito will be honored.<\/p>\n
That evening she\u2019ll be sharing the stage with the artist being honored, as well as with Aurora Vargas, Rancapino Chico, Pedro ‘El Grana\u00edno’, the Pa\u00f1ero brothers, Luis Moneo, Jos\u00e9 Carpio ‘Mijita’, Mar\u00eda Terremoto and the band ‘Con el baile en la memoria<\/i>‘, with Diego de la Margara, Manuela Carpio and Gema Moneo, among others. That\u2019s why, for Lela, \u201cit\u2019s a privilege to be able to share the stage with great masters of\u00a0cante<\/i>and\u00a0baile<\/i>, and I\u2019m really looking forward to sing in that festival where every\u00a0cantaor<\/i>\u00a0wishes to perform\u201d.
