{"id":6660,"date":"2018-05-05T14:02:58","date_gmt":"2018-05-05T14:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/uncategorized\/flamenco-baby-boom\/"},"modified":"2019-01-29T23:23:58","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T22:23:58","slug":"flamenco-baby-boom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/en\/opinion\/flamenco-baby-boom\/","title":{"rendered":"Flamenco baby boom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I declare myself a \u201cfollower\u201d, to use contemporary terminology, of the new and extremely young generation of flamenco artists who are revolutionizing the\u00a0<i>jondo<\/i>music market.<\/p>\n<p>Although I prefer some voices more than others, this art seems to be experiencing a renaissance, with artists, still in their teens, who remind us, in form rather than content, of the esthetics of old, as in the case of\u00a0<b><i>El Boleco<\/i><\/b>and\u00a0<b><i>El Purili<\/i><\/b>, young faces who reflect the wrinkles and grace of the oldest flamencos of Andalusia. Those two lads, born at the beginning of the 21st century, shine mysteriously, like the shine of the purest art, that is, the one which makes an impression because it\u2019s authentic, natural and true. Time will tell.<\/p>\n<p>This is nothing new. I apologize for this comparison, but artists such as\u00a0<b>Manolo Caracol<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Camar\u00f3n de la Isla<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Paco de Luc\u00eda<\/b>, to name just a few, already moved people to tears\u00a0<i>por seguiriyas<\/i>, and made them fall in love\u00a0<i>por sole\u00e1<\/i>, way before they knew how to shave.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, this explosion of artistic youth might mask a flamenco bubble, to keep using buzzwords. In the town of Mairena, the land with the greatest number of\u00a0<i>cantaores<\/i>\u00a0per habitant and square feet in all of Europe (and I don\u2019t mean just any artists, but\u00a0<i>cantaores<\/i>\u00a0specifically) we hardly come across any aficionado younger than 30 years old. I don\u2019t know if the same happens in other hotbeds of\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>, or why this happens, but this is worrisome.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there is a generation which is still young and has good artistic projection, as is the case with\u00a0<b>Jos\u00e9<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Jes\u00fas de la Mena<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Carlos Guill\u00e9n<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Ricardo R\u00edos<\/b>, the guitarist\u00a0<b>Jes\u00fas Rodr\u00edguez<\/b>\u00a0and the violinist\u00a0<b>Elisa Prenda<\/b>, without forgetting the\u00a0<b>Liborio Sosa<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Manolo Bustos<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Castillo<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Alejandro Navarro<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s\u00a0<b>Juan de Mairena<\/b>\u00a0too, of course. Born in 1985, he has plenty of talent and the stamp of someone who cherishes what is necessary to wade the pool of artists without getting his thighs wet. For sure, he\u2019ll be a mayor player in the arenas where the greatest artists perform.<\/p>\n<p>For now, there\u2019s plenty of\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>\u00a0in Mairena, with\u00a0<b>Manuel C\u00e1stulo<\/b>\u00a0on first row and growing, and the acclaimed\u00a0<b>Antonio Ortega Hijo<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Jos\u00e9 de la Mena<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Paco Morillo<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Juan Antonio Ram\u00edrez<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Juan C\u00e1stulo<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Antonio Ortega Padre<\/b>, among a long list which guarantees the sound of flamenco between the Mills and Castillo de Luna.<\/p>\n<p>The future is about to sing, and we\u2019ll listen to it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3911\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/pedromc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"129\" height=\"175\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Pedro Madro\u00f1al<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I declare myself a \u201cfollower\u201d, to use contemporary terminology, of the new and extremely young generation of flamenco artists who are revolutionizing the\u00a0jondomusic market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":6662,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[73,258],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6660","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-opinion","category-signature"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
