Manuela Carpio, Gypsy\u00a0bailaora<\/i>\u00a0from the Plazuela district, has spent her whole life on stages. Ever since she was born, in 1968, she\u2019s been living among\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0baile<\/i>\u00a0quite naturally, as the families of both her parents are one of the most prestigious among the Gypsies of Jerez: Carpio and Moneo. Thus, it was only natural that she decided to devote herself to flamenco since and early age, taking part in the shows of Manuel Morao after training at the academy of Crist\u00f3bal ‘El Jerezano’, her first teacher of\u00a0baile<\/i>. Morao immediately noted the innate talent of this little girl and included her in his successful flamenco kids ensemble \u201cEspa\u00f1a-Jerez<\/i>\u201d, together with other young flamenco artists of that time, such as La Macanita and Tomasito, who are now great artists in their own right. After that period, now a little older, she started touring and performing in the stages of New York, Miami, Madrid and other European cities. Later she focused her career as a teacher in her academy, although after a few years she would come back to the stages, performing at the\u00a0Fiesta de la Buler\u00eda<\/i>\u00a0(2015) and\u00a0Viernes Flamencos<\/i>\u00a0(2016) and well as at the\u00a0Festival de Jerez<\/i>, with \u201cCasta de una bailaora<\/i>\u201d (2006), \u201cManuela con el alma<\/i>\u201d (2012) and, at the Villamarta theater in 2017 \u201cAl comp\u00e1s con su gente<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had very good years, I think that things have happened at the time when they were supposed to\u201d, Manuela said. It\u2019s a fact that she has never been particularly ambitious, \u201cbut sometimes, opportunities which can\u2019t be ignored come up, and we must take and enjoy them\u201d, she continued. As an example, she mentioned one of the events where she will perform this summer, the festival\u00a0Jerez, Gran Reserva<\/i>, which will take place on July 7 in Jerez\u2019s\u00a0Plaza de Toros<\/i>\u00a0(bullfighting ring). \u201cWhen I got a call from Jos\u00e9 Luis Lara, I felt so happy, because I love to dance in my hometown with my people, and besides it\u2019s an evening honoring Pansequito, one of the greatest\u201d, she said. Manuela will be part of the group \u201cCon el baile en la memoria<\/i>\u201d together with other great\u00a0bailaores<\/i>\u00a0such as Diego de la Margara, Enrique Pantoja, Gema Moneo, Miguel \u00c1ngel Heredia, Fernando Jim\u00e9nez, T\u00eda Curra and T\u00eda Yoya. Among other artists in this group are El Purili de la L\u00ednea, Remedios Reyes, El Quini, Juanillorro, Juan Lara and Luis de Mateo.<\/p>\n
\u201cCareful, be sure to attend!\u201d, she said, \u201cbecause it\u2019s a great lineup and no one should miss it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before that show, Manuela will be giving a master class in Paris for three days, and she also will take part in Cajasol\u2019s\u00a0Viernes Flamencos<\/i>\u00a0series in Seville on May 17. Another adventure where this\u00a0bailaora<\/i>\u00a0has been fully involved is directing one of the shows programmed for the Fiesta de la Buler\u00eda de Jerez in August, honoring the late Manuel Moneo.<\/p>\n
That evening Manuela will be sharing the stage with the artist being honored, as well as with Aurora Vargas, Rancapino Chico, Pedro ‘El Grana\u00edno’, the Pa\u00f1ero brothers, Luis Moneo, Jos\u00e9 Carpio ‘Mijita’, Lela Soto ‘Sordera’, Mar\u00eda Terremoto and the above-mentioned group. That\u2019s why for Manuela \u201cit\u2019s an opportunity to enjoy Gypsy flamenco\u201d.
