The last time this happened was last August in the 50th edition of\u00a0Fiesta de la Buler\u00eda<\/i>\u00a0where, besides singing, she delighted the public with an unforgettable dance to the tune of Rancapino Chico, as can be attested by the many viral videos that came out of it. The thing is that Jerez, which is also the birthplace of her mother, the great T\u00eda Juana de los Reyes Valencia,\u00a0la del Pipa<\/i>, has always considered this\u00a0cantaora<\/i>\u00a0as one icon of its most universal musical genre, the\u00a0arte jondo<\/i>. She is and will always be one of the most beloved and respected of flamenco artists, held in the highest regard by aficionados and colleagues, with whom she has a great friendship, being idolized by some, such as Mora\u00edto.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Tina Turner of Nueva Street<\/i>, as one New York music critic once called her (a moniker she readily adopted) will take centerstage in a recital at the\u00a0Centro Cultural Flamenco Don Antonio Chac\u00f3n<\/i>\u00a0on Friday June 1 at 10 PM (free attendance), where she\u2019ll be joined by the guitar of Pepe del Morao. This recital has certain historical importance, since, as stated by Juana herself in the press conference presenting the event, \u201cit will be the first time ever I perform in this\u00a0pe\u00f1a<\/i>\u201d. This event\u2019s presentation protocol took place at the booth of\u00a0Pe\u00f1a Flamenca Los Cern\u00edcalos<\/i>, which is hosting its sister\u00a0pe\u00f1a<\/i>\u00a0these days of\u00a0fiesta<\/i>, during the\u00a0Feria del Caballo<\/i>. In attendance there were several representatives of the world of\u00a0pe\u00f1as<\/i>\u00a0as well as Francisco Camas, Jerez\u2019s Town Hall Cultural Delegate, and the remainder of the artists who will take part in the 34th edition of a series which this year is dedicated to women.<\/p>\n
The Friday before Juana\u2019s recital there will be a performance by Saray Garc\u00eda,\u00a0bailaora<\/i>\u00a0from Jerez who is at the highest point in her career, being in demand by the foremost\u00a0tablaos<\/i>\u00a0in Spain. She has been an artist from an early age, starting to perform under the wing of her teacher Ana Mar\u00eda L\u00f3pez with the ensemble\u00a0Semilla Flamenca<\/i>. Little by little, she has been polishing her style until developing her own, which is quintessentially\u00a0Jerez<\/i>, with a high technical quality, yet never neglecting the art of the wrists. For dancing it\u2019s essential to have good\u00a0cante<\/i>, so she\u2019ll be joined by Joaqu\u00edn Mar\u00edn\u00a0El Quini<\/i>\u00a0and Juanillorro, as well as by the guitar of Jes\u00fas \u00c1lvarez. The date is May 25, at the same time.<\/p>\n
Juan Alfonso Romero, the\u00a0pe\u00f1a<\/i>\u2019s president, acknowledged that it\u2019s \u201can exciting lineup for our\u00a0pe\u00f1a<\/i>, because we wanted to give women their space, for many generations\u201d. The last performance will take place on June 9, with the traditional member\u2019s dinner, where only members who have previously requested an invitation will be admitted. For that evening, the\u00a0pe\u00f1a<\/i>\u2019s management have prepared something very, very special. Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Franco, an established\u00a0bailaora<\/i>\u00a0from C\u00e1diz, will bring the ocean breeze to this venue, where it will meet the brave\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0of Jerez, with Carmen Grilo, Manuel Moneo Carrasco and Javier Pe\u00f1a, without forgetting the guitar of Juan Manuel Moneo, one more reason to enjoy this performance. That evening, a group from M\u00e1laga\u2019s\u00a0Pe\u00f1a Juan Breva<\/i>\u00a0and the\u00a0Panda de Verdiales del Sant\u00f3n Pitar<\/i>\u00a0will come, \u201cwishing to pay homage to the memory of Don Antonio Chac\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n
