The art of Perico and Jos\u00e9 Pa\u00f1ero is being increasingly appreciated by flamenco aficionados everywhere. They are two brothers who in every performance, without much fuss and a lot of humility, portray the most traditional aspects of\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0baile<\/i>,\u00a0jondo<\/i>\u00a0and Gypsy. Up to a few years ago, Perico (the youngest sibling) worked in something quite removed from arts and music, but fortunately he became a full-time\u00a0cantaor<\/i>\u00a0and has already performed in big flamenco events for several years.<\/p>\n
Perico acknowledges being in a \u201cgreat moment\u201d of his career, having performances scheduled for renowned summer festivals such as\u00a0Potaje de Utrera<\/i>\u00a0(June 30), Badolatosa (July 27), Pedagajar and Campillos (in august), and in popular venues such as Casa Patas (May 19) or\u00a0pe\u00f1as<\/i>\u00a0like\u00a0Antonio Mairena<\/i>\u00a0in \u00c9cija (June 9). He believes he\u2019s getting better each year (\u201cand the public has noticed it\u201d), and that\u2019s why he has started thinking about the release of his first album, although he says that \u201cI still haven\u2019t nailed the sounds I\u2019d like to record, but I\u2019m on it\u201d.<\/p>\n
Both these artists have increasingly gained followers, because it\u2019s not easy these days to find flamenco performers who are able to sing while they dance, and vice versa, specially recalling the old days when spontaneity and grace ruled, always having as a solid base a deep knowledge of flamenco and a keen interest in it. The magic increases when they both get on the same stage, revealing their great command of the\u00a0cantes por seguiriyas<\/i>\u00a0of the school of Manuel Torres or Tom\u00e1s Pav\u00f3n, or the\u00a0sole\u00e1s<\/i>\u00a0of Manolito de Mar\u00eda o Juan Talega, as well as the\u00a0buler\u00edas<\/i>\u00a0of Ni\u00f1a de los Peines or Moneo, the\u00a0fandangos<\/i>\u00a0of Chocolate, Agujetas or Ni\u00f1o Gloria… or the arm movements of Miguel Funi, Paco Valdepe\u00f1as, Jos\u00e9\u00a0El Mono<\/i>\u00a0or Antonio Marsell\u00e9s. All of this makes these two artists stand out and make a difference in many aspects of today\u2019s flamenco.<\/p>\n
Among the dates circled in red in their calendars is July 7, when the ‘Jerez, Gran Reserva<\/i>‘ festival will take place at this city\u00a0Plaza de Toros<\/i>\u00a0(bullfighting ring), honoring Pansequito. For Perico, being in Jerez means being at ease, as \u201cI can relate with the approach to\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0that Jerez\u2019s aficionados have, and I also had a very good time here in my teens\u201d. In turn, Jos\u00e9 expresses his \u201csatisfaction\u201d for having the opportunity to perform in this festival, which \u201cimplies a great responsibility\u201d. Regarding Pansequito, Jos\u00e9 describes him as \u201cone of the role models for the younger\u00a0cantaored<\/i>, backed by his long career\u201d, and Perico commends this initiative, because \u201ctributes must take place when the honored artists are still alive\u201d.<\/p>\n
They won\u2019t be the only artists to perform in this festival, which this year will celebrate its second edition. Pansequito himself will attend, together with Aurora Vargas, Rancapino Chico, Pedro\u00a0El Grana\u00edno<\/i>, Luis Moneo, Jos\u00e9 Mijita, Mar\u00eda Terremoto, Lela Soto and the ensemble ‘El baile en la memoria<\/i>‘, featuring Manuela Carpio, Diego de Margara, Gema Moneo, Enrique Pantoja, T\u00eda Yoya, T\u00eda Curra, Fernando Jim\u00e9nez and Miguel \u00c1ngel Heredia, with the\u00a0cantes<\/i>\u00a0of Juan Lara, Joaqu\u00edn Mar\u00edn\u00a0El Quini<\/i>, Juanillorro, Luis de Mateo, Remedios Reyes and Alonso\u00a0El Purili<\/i>‘.
