The different activities which will be part of this event, as well as the name of the featured artists, was revealed on the afternoon of May 22. The mayor of Mairena del Alcor, Ricardo S\u00e1nchez, was in charge of disclosing all the details in a ceremony celebrated at the\u00a0Sal\u00f3n del Almirante<\/i>\u00a0in Seville\u2019s\u00a0Real Alc\u00e1zar<\/i>.<\/p>\n
This renowned and historical festival features a program of 15 activities which includes flamenco shows,\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0recitals, masterclasses, presentations, expositions and a round table. The poster was designed by the artist Antonino Parrilla, from Seville, who also designed the poster for this festival in the year 2000.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this year when we\u2019re celebrating the 35th anniversary of the death of the master Antonio Mairena we are looking to the future, working on the initial stages of a symposium which will focus on his career and legacy, featuring the\u00a0Bienales<\/i>\u00a0of Seville and M\u00e1laga\u201d, stated Ricardo S\u00e1nchez, mayor of Mairena del Alcor.<\/p>\n
The 57th Festival will pay tribute to the\u00a0Bienal de Arte Flamenco de M\u00e1laga<\/i>, due to its important role in promoting flamenco, as well as to the cultural relationship between M\u00e1laga and Mairena in this art. The presentation was attended by the festival\u2019s director, Antonio Roche, as well as by the director of the\u00a0Bienal de Sevilla<\/i>, Antonio Zoido. The mayor of Mairena stated: \u201cI\u2019m unaware if these two important events of the flamenco world have ever before shared an official ceremony, but the fact is that today they are united with the\u00a0Festival de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena<\/i>, a living proof that culture is the primary source of harmony between different peoples, providing the strongest links of unity that can possibly exist.\u201d<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Casa Palacio de los Duques de Arcos<\/i>\u00a0venue will host most of the festival\u2019s events, which will start on Monday, August 27 at 9:30 PM, with the opening of two expositions (\u201cFlamenco Works of the Sculptor Jes\u00fas Gavira<\/i>\u201d and \u201cGestos<\/i>\u201d by Chano Gavira) as well as the project of artistic intervention \u201cLo \u00edntimo de lo Jondo<\/i>\u201d, by N\u00fa\u00f1ez de Dios. The evening will close with a recital by Mar\u00eda Terremoto, accompanied by the guitar of Nono Jero.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday 28th, the\u00a0cantaor<\/i>\u00a0Calixto S\u00e1nchez will give a masterclass, with Town Hall subsiding 50% of the total cost. That day, two presentations will take place at\u00a0Casa Palacio<\/i>: the presentation of the\u00a0Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Canela de San Roque<\/i>\u00a0and the presentation of Antonio P\u00e9rez\u2019s book \u201cDonde habita la claridad (Poes\u00eda Flamenca)<\/i>\u201d. The\u00a0cantaores<\/i>\u00a0Manuel Peralta and Fernando Canela, accompanied by the guitar of Antonio Peralta, will give a recital of\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0at 11 PM.<\/p>\n
Wednesday, August 29, will start with a masterclass by the\u00a0bailaor<\/i>\u00a0Antonio Canales. In the evening, at 9:30 PM in\u00a0Casa Palacio<\/i>, the round table \u201cAntonio Mairena and his relationship with M\u00e1laga<\/i>\u201d will take place, directed by Antonio Roche, with the participation of Ram\u00f3n Soler, president of\u00a0Fundaci\u00f3n Antonio Mairena<\/i>, and Jos\u00e9 Luis Cuberta. This event will be followed by the recital of the\u00a0cantaora<\/i>\u00a0Virginia G\u00e1mez, accompanied by the guitar of Andr\u00e9s Cansino.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Teatro de la Villa del Conocimiento y las Artes<\/i>\u00a0will be the stage where Dorante\u2019s show \u201cUn flamenco al piano<\/i>\u201d will take place on Thursday 30th at 10 PM. Later on, at midnight in the town\u2019s center, on Antonio Mairena square, \u201cUtrera por Fiestas<\/i>\u201d will be performed, with the\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0of Luis El Marquesito, Delia del Cuchara, Encarnita de Utrera and Jes\u00fas de la Frasquita, accompanied by the guitar of Pit\u00edn Hijo, the\u00a0comp\u00e1s<\/i>of Gaspar de la Teresa and the\u00a0baile<\/i>\u00a0of Sof\u00eda Su\u00e1rez.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Concurso Nacional de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena<\/i>, organized by\u00a0Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena<\/i>\u00a0for the lovers of good\u00a0cante<\/i>, will take place at the\u00a0Auditorio Municipal Manuel Mairena<\/i>, on Friday 31st at 10:30 PM. This year, this contest will honor the\u00a0Pe\u00f1a Cultural Flamenca Recreativa Andaluza \u201cAntonio Mairena\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(located in Hospitalet de Llobregat, near Barcelona), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.<\/p>\n
The evening gala of the 57th Festival on Saturday, September 1 at 10:30 PM will feature a lineup studded with stars of\u00a0cante<\/i>,\u00a0toque<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0baile<\/i>, with performances by Arc\u00e1ngel, accompanied by the guitar of Miguel \u00c1ngel Cort\u00e9s and the\u00a0palmas<\/i>\u00a0and chorus of Los Mellis; Marina Heredia, accompanied by the guitar of El Bola and chorus of Anabel Rivera; Juan de Mairena, accompanied by the guitar of Rub\u00e9n Lavaniegos; Ca\u00f1eta de M\u00e1laga, accompanied by the guitar of Antonio Soto and the\u00a0palmas<\/i>\u00a0of Kiko de Tiriti and La Chiscano. Al\u00a0baile<\/i>, Farruquito, accompanied by the\u00a0cante<\/i>\u00a0of Pepe de Pura and Mar\u00eda Viz\u00e1rraga, the guitar of Jos\u00e9 G\u00e1lvez and the percussion of Polito. The event will be presented by Manuel Curao.<\/p>\n
