<\/p>\nDespite not having its own beachfront, Jerez has become the favorite destination for many people during the warm summer months. Each year a multitude of tourist arrive in Jerez, looking for a combination of sun, beaches and hills, heritage, wine and flamenco, things that can be found with an overnight stay in the birthplace of Lola Flores. Aware of the increased demand for accommodation in July and August, Jerez\u2019s City Council, with its Flamenco Unit, has decided to focus the varied and traditional cultural programming of those months on its most representative musical genre.<\/p>\n
From July 7 to August 25,\u00a0Cal\u00f3 Flamenco<\/i>\u00a0will take place in Jerez, a series which will include all of summer flamenco performances. It starts with the 2nd\u00a0Festival \u2018Jerez, Gran Reserva\u2019<\/i>, honoring\u00a0Pansequito<\/b>, which will take place in the city\u2019s\u00a0Plaza de Toros<\/i>\u00a0(bullfighting ring) on July 7, with a lineup featuring artists of the stature of\u00a0Aurora Vargas<\/b>,\u00a0Rancapino Chico<\/b>,\u00a0Pedro El Grana\u00edno<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Luis Moneo<\/b>. This will be the starting gun for all the flamenco that will be performed this summer. We shall also mention that June will also feature several flamenco events, such as the concerts of\u00a0Maloko Soto<\/b>and\u00a0Andr\u00e9s de Jerez<\/b>, on June 23 and 29th respectively, both launching their new albums in the\u00a0Claustros de Santo Domingo<\/i>\u00a0venue. On June 14 and 15th the 1st Conference \u2018The City: Flamenco Heritage of Jerez<\/i>\u2019 (‘La Ciudad, Patrimonio Flamenco de Jerez<\/i>‘) will take place, with lectures, round tables, etc. It\u2019s organized by Ferm\u00edn Lobat\u00f3n and attendance is free.<\/p>\n
Back to\u00a0Cal\u00f3 Flamenco<\/i>, we must highlight the historic series\u00a0Viernes Flamencos<\/i>\u00a0(\u201cFlamenco Fridays<\/i>\u201d), which will start the evening of July 13 with the performance of\u00a0Dani de Mor\u00f3n<\/b>, joined by the voices of\u00a0Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez<\/b>,\u00a0Duquende<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Antonio Reyes<\/b>. The following Friday, the\u00a0Alc\u00e1zar de Jerez<\/i>\u00a0will host an emotional tribute to\u00a0maestro<\/i>\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Luis Balao<\/b>, featuring performances by some of his famous students. The three following Fridays (July 27, August 3 and August 10) will be organized, respectively, by\u00a0Pe\u00f1a La Buler\u00eda<\/i>(featuring\u00a0Antonio Agujetas<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Mijita<\/b>, among others),\u00a0Pe\u00f1a T\u00edo Jos\u00e9 de Paula<\/i>\u00a0(featuring the\u00a0Zambo family<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0\u00c1ngel Vargas<\/b>, among others) and\u00a0A.C.F. Fernando Terremoto<\/i>\u00a0(featuring\u00a0Luisa Mu\u00f1oz<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Ana Rancapino<\/b>).<\/p>\n
Another noteworthy series in Jerez\u2019s summer season is ‘Noches de Bohemia<\/i>‘: five Saturdays (July 14, 21st and 28th, and August 4 and 11th), focusing on more alternative flamenco artists. The first Saturday will feature\u00a0Diego Carrasco<\/b>\u00a0and his show\u00a0Hippytano<\/i>.\u00a0Diego del Morao<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Antonio Rey<\/b>\u00a0will share the stage the following Saturday with their show\u00a0Compadres<\/i>. The third week will feature the Galician music of\u00a0Carlos N\u00fa\u00f1ez<\/b>. On the fourth Saturday, the great\u00a0Jorge Pardo<\/b>\u00a0will return to Jerez, and the final date will feature the show\u00a0Esencias<\/i>, by\u00a0Dorantes<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Marina Heredia<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Capping it all (pending further information about another series of contemporary style known as MIMA, which will take place the Wednesdays in July at Jerez\u2019s\u00a0Museo Arqueol\u00f3gico<\/i>), we\u2019ll have the 51st\u00a0Fiesta de la Buler\u00eda<\/i>: five days of hectic activity with three important shows at the\u00a0Alameda Vieja<\/i>\u00a0venue. On August 23 \u201cEl R\u00edo de la Buler\u00eda<\/i>\u201d will be performed, directed by\u00a0Curro Carrasco<\/b>; the 24th will focus on the relationship between Japan and Jerez, featuring\u00a0David Lagos<\/b>,\u00a0Shoji Kojima<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Javier Latorre<\/b>\u00a0(among others), and the 25th will honor\u00a0Manuel Moneo<\/b>\u00a0with a show directed by\u00a0Manuela Carpio<\/b>.<\/p>\n
This summer, Jerez will experience the warmth of\u00a0Cal\u00f3 Flamenco<\/i><\/p>\n
