It\u2019s been a whole, fruitful life, for the benefit of all those who love flamenco. Having a unique voice, she assimilated the life experiences offered by the previous generation, learning the values that those embracing the legacy of centuries of Gypsy musical culture must posses. It\u2019s true that, despite not having experienced the privations suffered by the postwar children,\u00a0<i>La Macanita<\/i>, a well-known nickname inherited from her father, grew up in a constant struggle to provide for her numerous family. She was just 4 years old when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xr_8Xwsi1RE\">she was featured in the legendary TV series\u00a0<i>Rito y Geograf\u00eda del\u00a0cante<\/i><\/a>, taking part with her fine voice in a spontaneous party\u00a0<i>por buler\u00edas<\/i>, offering an unusual portrayal of such age, without a doubt.<\/p>\n<p>She amazed, enthralled and captivated those who organized festivals, private parties and other events related with flamenco in Jerez, at that time. Yet, she made the leap to Madrid, joining other artists from her land for a few seasons in\u00a0<i>El Tablao &#8216;Los Canasteros&#8217;<\/i>, such as Paca and Manuela, Mora\u00edto and Juan Moneo\u00a0<i>El Torta<\/i>. She was outstanding in her own right, not just a sideshow. She was barely twenty years old when she already as a star in Jerez, at the time when Paquera was the Queen and Fernanda and Bernarda were at the peak of their careers. Yet, Tomasa had her own space. Both Mora\u00edto and Parrilla, two guitarists with a loyal following, adopted her as their muse whenever they performed. They had been the most ubiquitous guitarist during the 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium, as well as in Tomasa\u2019s discography.<\/p>\n<p>The last album released by this\u00a0<i>cantaora<\/i>\u00a0was nominated to the Grammy Latin Awards. It was recorded live with Manuel Valencia at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/opinion-archivo\/el-circulo-flamenco-de-madrid-cumple-un-lustro\"><i>C\u00edrculo Flamenco de Madrid<\/i><\/a>\u00a0and is considered by aficionados one of the best flamenco albums released in the last few years. The thing is that Macanita is good at everything she does, and she has proved it in these difficult years when her quality and prestige have remained undiminished and she leads in the number of performances in every season. She will soon be performing at the\u00a0<i>Potaje de Utrera<\/i>\u00a0(June 30), at the\u00a0<i>Festival de la Yerbabuena en Las Cabezas de San Juan<\/i>\u00a0(July 6), and in August she\u2019ll perform in Ronda, Estepona, Cazorla, Puente Genil, Porcuna and at the\u00a0<i>Fiesta de la Buler\u00eda<\/i>\u00a0in Jerez.<\/p>\n<p><i>Jerez-Xerez-Sherry<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>La Luna de Tomasa<\/i>\u00a0have been two great albums she released as soloist, and we can\u2019t forget\u00a0<i>Mujerez<\/i>, recorded with Juana la del Pipa and Dolores\u00a0<i>Agujetas<\/i>, so highly acclaimed, among others. Tomasa also collaborated with the albums\u00a0<i>Jerez canta a Manuel Alejandro<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Jerez canta a Caballero Bonald<\/i>\u00a0and the last album of Vicente Soto.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s true that Macanita is greatly renowned for her\u00a0<i>sole\u00e1s<\/i>, we shouldn\u2019t forget her talent in many other\u00a0<i>cantes<\/i>, such as\u00a0<i>buler\u00edas, tientos, tangos, saetas, seguiriyas, alegr\u00edas, malague\u00f1as<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>villancicos<\/i>. Tomasa is able to succeed in whatever she does, as it became apparent in Manolo Sanl\u00facar\u2019s album\u00a0<i>Tauromagia<\/i>, or in her rendition of the\u00a0<i>plegaria al Prendimiento<\/i>\u00a0in Jerez\u2019s Holy Week, which was the talk of the town. It\u2019s precisely around the world of\u00a0<i>villancico<\/i>\u00a0that Tomasa is preparing a concert which will be held in Jerez\u2019s Villamarta theater on December 6. It will be a\u00a0<i>Christmas Concert<\/i>\u00a0and it\u2019s already confirmed in the theater\u2019s program that Macanita will be that evening\u2019s protagonist. That\u2019s noteworthy, because until now she hadn\u2019t had such opportunity, even as she had taken part in the great\u00a0<i>villancico<\/i>\u00a0events of the last thirty years. Macanita won the trophy\u00a0<i>Real Tesoro, a la Promoci\u00f3n del Villancico<\/i>, awarded by the\u00a0<i>Asociaci\u00f3n de Belenistas de Jerez<\/i>\u00a0(2002); she has taken part in most tracks of the album\u00a0<i>As\u00ed canta nuestra tierra en Navidad<\/i>, released by\u00a0<i>Caja de Ahorros de Jerez<\/i>; she has shared the stage with Roc\u00edo Jurado and Jos\u00e9 Merc\u00e9 during\u00a0<i>villancico<\/i>performances; she was in charge of performing\u00a0<i>villancicos<\/i>\u00a0in Carlos Saura\u2019s movie\u00a0<i>Flamenco<\/i>, and has performed numerous times in the stage of this theater taking part in several\u00a0<i>villancico<\/i>\u00a0productions. However, this will be the first time she\u2019ll be the main performer in this venue.
