<\/p>\nThe brotherhood with the most devotees among the Gypsies of Jerez, particularly in the San Miguel neighborhood, will celebrate this summer another of its\u00a0Veladas Flamencas<\/i>\u00a0(\u201cFlamenco Nights\u201d), featuring a lineup of great stars. The brotherhood\u2019s \u201cExpiring Christ\u201d statue has always strengthened the faith of the Gypsies of La Plazuela district, from Manuel Torres to Paquera de Jerez, passing by all the families of this illustrious suburb, such as the Moneo, Rubichi, M\u00e9ndez, Carpio and Agujetas. Whenever this brotherhood has had a need to cover expenses for social works or equity investments, they\u2019ve been able to count with those who know how to sing, dance, play the guitar or keep the beat to come up with a good show, from zambombas to recitals.<\/p>\n
The last of such events took place at the church of San Francisco in Jerez\u2019s city center, with that production which was between \u201cSacred\u201d and \u201cFlamenco\u201d, featuring Paco Cepero as the star artist of that series. Likewise, we still remember the great recital by Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez and Diego del Morao in a winery of Jerez, several months ago.<\/p>\n
Now, the\u00a0Veladas Flamencas<\/i>\u00a0are scheduled to take place on Augu 31st at the Alc\u00e1zar de Jerez venue, taking advantage of the existing infrastructure for music shows such\u00a0Viernes Flamencos<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Noches de Bohemia<\/i>. Twelve hundred people are expected to fill this heritage venue, with the aim of raising money for the restoration of the San Telmo chapel, which is the canonical headquarter of the brotherhood and has been under restoration for the last three years.<\/p>\n
The presentation of this upcoming show took place last Monday at the Jerez\u2019s Fundador Cellars, which is sponsoring the event, and was attended by numerous artists, the Elder Brother, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Garc\u00eda Cordero, and the mayor\u2019s deputy, Jos\u00e9 Antonio D\u00edaz. Jos\u00e9 Pe\u00f1a and Jos\u00e9 Rubichi, the artistic directors of this evening gala who managed to put together a superb lineup, also attended. Many of the artists who are featured in this festival will not perform in other flamenco events this summer, so there will be a higher-than-usual expectation, for sure. Headlining the lineup is no other than Miguel Flores Quir\u00f3s ‘Capullo de Jerez’, one of the most beloved flamenco artists of this city. He\u2019ll be followed by other artists of high caliber such as Luis Moneo, Antonio Agujetas, Dolores Agujetas, Alfonso Carpio ‘Mijita’, Elu de Jerez, Luisa Mu\u00f1oz, Felipa del Moreno and Ezequiel Ben\u00edtez.<\/p>\n
At the presentation act, the mayor\u2019s deputy expressed his commitment with the Brotherhood \u201cto uphold a heritage that belongs to all the people of Jerez\u201d.<\/p>\n
Continuing with the artistic aspects, we must acknowledge the great value of other attending great artists such as Juanillorro, Momo Moneo, Juan Lara, Ni\u00f1o de la Fragua, Manuel de la Fragua, Manuel Moneo Carrasco, Manuel de Cantarote, Ana de los Reyes, Coral de los Reyes, Tamara de Ta\u00f1\u00e9, Sandra Rinc\u00f3n, Anabel Rosado, Mar\u00eda del Mar Barea and the little Roc\u00edo Carrasco. And where there are young artists, the older ones of La Plazuela will be there too, such as T\u00edo Pe\u00f1a, El Chusco, Zorri, Andr\u00e9s de Jerez, Gasolina and Mijita Padre. Good guitarists will accompany those numerous voices: Domingo Rubichi, Juan Manuel Moneo, Paco Le\u00f3n, Miguel Salado, Manuel de Periqu\u00edn, JuanPe Carabante and the singer-songwriter Manuel de Pay. Jos\u00e9 Pe\u00f1a, Jos\u00e9 Rubichi, Luis Santiago, Israel L\u00f3pez, Javi Pe\u00f1a, Ali de la Tota and Manuel Vinaza will be in charge of\u00a0comp\u00e1s<\/i>. The whole festival will be presented by yours truly, Juan Garrido.<\/p>\n
The tickets are quite affordable, 10 euros in advance or 15 euros at the door, and they can be bought at\u00a0Tabanco El Pasaje<\/i>, Bar\u00a0La Moderna<\/i>, the Church of San Francisco, San Telmo\u2019s Brotherhood House and\u00a0Grabados Polo<\/i>.<\/p>\n
