{"id":6039,"date":"2017-11-01T17:40:38","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T17:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/uncategorized\/aquel-malogrado-lamparilla\/"},"modified":"2019-04-14T14:50:37","modified_gmt":"2019-04-14T12:50:37","slug":"the-unfortunate-lamparilla","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/en\/blog-archivo\/the-unfortunate-lamparilla\/","title":{"rendered":"The unfortunate Lamparilla"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seville had a\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>, born in the same year as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Antonio-Chac%C3%B3n\/c112t\/56771a790cf28854b38dc92e\">Don Antonio Chac\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0(1869), who died before he was twenty years old. His name was Antonio P\u00e1ez C\u00f3rdoba and he was the son of another great\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>\u00a0from Seville, the renowned Antonio P\u00e1ez\u00a0<i>El Pintor<\/i>. I\u2019m referring to the celebrated\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>\u00a0Lamparilla, born on Seville\u2019s Alcal\u00e1 street (now renamed Divina Pastora), located right in the middle of the Feria neighborhood. It was on #9 of that street with so much flamenco tradition where Ni\u00f1o Gloria died in 1954.<\/p>\n<p>Lamparilla was born across the street, on #4, when his father was 24 years old and was already a famed\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>. That was roughly the same area where\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/blog-archivo\/aquel-genial-nino-de-torres\">Manuel Torres<\/a>\u2019 widow and daughters (one of whom was the wife of another great\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>, Pepe R\u00edos, from Mor\u00f3n) lived for many years.<\/p>\n<p>Lamparilla was a child prodigy, as he was already performing in Madrid when he was eight years old. He was under the wing of another great artist, Seville\u2019s guitarist Maestro P\u00e9rez, who has been forgotten in his own hometown, even as he was renowned in his days, as he was one of the pioneers of that art and a leading guitarist, partner of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Silverio-y-la-desmemoriada-Sevilla\/c112t\/5626e3090cf2c6c64380ea3b\">Silverio Franconetti<\/a>\u00a0and one of his trusted friends, just like Manuel Ojeda\u00a0<i>El Burrero<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>After many years dancing as a professional, Lamparilla got sick and died very young, in 1888, on Europa street to be precise, another street rich in flamenco tradition, near La Alameda de H\u00e9rcules. Interestingly, in his death certificate his occupation is stated as \u201cMaster of Dance\u201d, something unusual in those days, considering he was so young. That goes to show he was a professional and that his sole occupation was\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2017\/01\/10\/Fernando-el-de-Triana\">Fernando el de Triana<\/a>, who wrote about him in his book\u00a0<i>Arte y artistas flamencos<\/i>\u00a0(Madrid, 1935), suggests that it was\u00a0<i>baile<\/i>\u00a0itself what finished him off, that is, its environment in those days, which was quite harsh, particularly for a young boy. Oddly, Antonio El Pintor outlived all his children, and he ended his days living alone with his wife, Carmen C\u00f3rdoba Barrera, who had been born on Linos street, also in the Feria neighborhood. It\u2019s a sad story, without a doubt, totally unknown in Seville, just like everything else regarding flamenco\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>Without a doubt, Lamparilla was a great artist, otherwise his name would not have transcended history. If he hadn\u2019t died so young, he would have been among the greatest in\u00a0<i>baile<\/i>, and we would know much more about him. Until I decided to research this\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>, not even his actual name was known, but only his stage name. Now we finally know who he was, when he was born and when he died. Sadly, his life was cut short too soon and Seville forgot him miserably.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s another oddity about this mythical\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>: he was born on November 26, 1869. It was exactly one century later, on November 26, 1969, when\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Cuarenta-y-seis-a%C3%B1os-sin-Pastora\/c112t\/565548780cf2a1cf6d1811d5\">Ni\u00f1a de los Peines<\/a>\u00a0passed away, a few yards from the place where Lamparilla came to this world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seville had a\u00a0bailaor, born in the same year as\u00a0Don Antonio Chac\u00f3n\u00a0(1869), who died before he was twenty years old. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":11711,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[66],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6039","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog-archivo"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
