I used to see the great\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2017\/08\/08\/Fernanda-Romero\">Fernanda Romero<\/a>\u00a0at La Alameda de H\u00e9rcules, or at the Barrio de la Feria, in Seville, and my heart would stop, seeing her jet-black hair up in a bun, walking with that enchanting manner of hers. What a personality she had, that\u00a0<i>bailaora<\/i>, who already passed away. The first time I saw\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2016\/10\/06\/El-abuelo-y-la-gesta-de-Roc%C3%ADo-Molina\">Roc\u00edo Molina<\/a>\u00a0dance, it reminded me of Fernanda. I don\u2019t know if Roc\u00edo ever watched her perform, but the fact is that when I first watched Molina\u2019s fresh, improvised movements at Parque de Mar\u00eda Luisa, I couldn\u2019t help but thinking of Fernanda.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the\u00a0<i>bailaores<\/i>\u00a0of Seville, I always liked three amazing ones:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Farruco\/c112t\/566e47370cf2bbe8cab82498\">Farruco<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Matilde-Coral-y-Rafael-El-Negro\/c112t\/57199be00cf25351a37dba74\">Rafael el Negro<\/a>\u00a0and Juan Montoya (the father of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2016\/12\/20\/Lole-Montoya-Raimundo-Amador-y-Rafael-Amador\">Lole Montoya<\/a>). If it were possible to fuse all three in one single\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>, we would have the best\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>\u00a0that ever lived, with the wild purity of Farruco, the naturality and difficult simplicity of El Negro (who always seemed as if he were dancing in his house\u2019s yard), and Juan\u2019s arms elegance. I only see this in Triana\u2019s\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>\u00a0Paco Vega (from Gitanillo\u2019s family), without a doubt the best of the few good\u00a0<i>bailaores<\/i>left. Sometimes, I also see that gift in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Pepe-Torres\/c112t\/5750eb5f0cf24c96159fb01f\">Pepe Torres<\/a>\u00a0(from Mor\u00f3n and grandson of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Joselero-y-Diego-del-Gastor\/c112t\/5739414a0cf266ff0bfa4170\">Joselero<\/a>), in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!El-Junco\/c112t\/5750ebae0cf2b2ec517bc305\">El Junco<\/a>\u00a0(from C\u00e1diz), and of course in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2015\/12\/14\/Farruquito-y-Juan-Ram%C3%ADrez\">Farruquito<\/a>, the genius of our days.<\/p>\n<p>I know that each period in\u00a0<i>baile<\/i>\u00a0has begotten a different way of dancing, and it\u2019s a mistake trying to make comparisons. I also know that the old styles won\u2019t come back, except wrapped in imitation, naturally, like happens in\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>. Each\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>\u00a0and each\u00a0<i>bailaora<\/i>\u00a0are irreplaceable.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Matilde-la-trabajadora\/c112t\/578318380cf2f626feb1af85\">Matilde Coral<\/a>\u00a0is irreplaceable, no matter how good\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/#!Pepa-Montes\/c112t\/5750ec860cf245cf719deb1a\">Pepa Montes<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/blog-archivo\/el-baile-jondo-de-milagros-mengibar\">Milagros Meng\u00edbar<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/#!Carmen-Ledesma\/c112t\/5750f0800cf2a5fcbcc65df6\">Carmen Ledesma<\/a>\u00a0are. I won\u2019t even mention\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/#!Manuela-Carrasco\/c112t\/569858210cf2e94e3fb86b22eady?\">Manuela Carrasco<\/a>, because she\u2019s something else, and the same goes for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/#!Angelita-Vargas\/c112t\/56cf4c930cf26bd1d3eef96e\">Angelita Vargas<\/a>, even if she doesn\u2019t perform anymore (although she\u2019s able to stop the world turning, just by lifting her arm, sitting on a chair).\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/single-post\/2017\/07\/23\/Redescubriendo-a-Canales\">Canales<\/a>too, who is not someone who performs rehearsed steps, but takes all the essence of flamenco on stage and uses it.<\/p>\n<p>Most\u00a0<i>bailaores<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>bailaoras<\/i>\u00a0in our times, the new generation, dance in the same way as it\u2019s done in\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>and in toque nowadays: with a flawless technique, product of endless hours of study, yet with barely any feeling or \u201c<i>pellizco<\/i>\u201d. I know it\u2019s all very subjective, but that\u2019s how I perceive it, and how I feel it. I write to express how I feel, and not to please everyone, which incidentally would be impossible, knowing all peculiarities of this little world of flamenco.<\/p>\n<p>I say all this because I don\u2019t understand how come today\u2019s flamenco critics (or at least most of them) go around singing praises to a style of dance that, with few exceptions, lacks any\u00a0<i>jondo<\/i>\u00a0character.\u00a0<i>Baile<\/i>\u00a0has always had a theatrical aspect, but what we often see today is not even theatrics, but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/blog-archivo\/un-detector-de-ojana\">ojana<\/a>. Except two or three artists, who does dance flamenco with natural art nowadays?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Translated by P.
