I was captivated by this\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0from Jerez about forty years ago, when I bough a small vinyl record with two of his\u00a0<i>cantes<\/i>\u00a0at the Casa Pinto shop, on Cuna de Sevilla street. At first, I didn\u2019t like it, and I mentioned this to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Hablando-de-cante-con-Mairena\/c112t\/5760d1d50cf29542aa289730\">Antonio Mairena<\/a>, who told me: \u201cListen to that record several times, and you\u2019ll end up appreciating its value\u201d. And that\u2019s how it was. When Torres\u2019 sound got into my head, I found my love for\u00a0<i>El Majareta<\/i>\u00a0(one of Torres\u2019 several stage names) grow so much that I started to look for everything that had to do with him, his life and his works.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<i>Colecci\u00f3n Carlos Mart\u00edn Ballester<\/i>, which featured\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2017\/02\/05\/Colecci%C3%B3n-Carlos-Mart%C3%ADn-Ballester\">Don Antonio Chac\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0in his first volume, has now published it second volume about Manuel Torres, doing it in a deluxe edition, which includes a very well documented biography (although, in my opinion, it\u2019s too technical, and it doesn\u2019t do an in-depth analysis of this genius from the \u00c1lamos street in Jerez) and an analysis of his works, which is something essential in any biography. We must highlight not only the work of Carlos Mart\u00edn, but also that of Ram\u00f3n Soler D\u00edaz and Norberto Torres, without forgetting Jos\u00e9 Manuel Gamboa, although he didn\u2019t write in great depth. Among them they\u2019ve created a publication which, even as it was just released, is already essential in any flamenco library.<\/p>\n<p>Besides missing a more in-depth perspective about the personality and the life of this genius, I also missed a more detailed analysis of the city of Seville at the time when this\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0lived there for about thirty years, when he influenced other artists and was also influenced by them. I would also have liked more information about the family of this\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>, both the Algeciras and the Jerez branches (paternal and maternal, respectively), as I believe this is something essential.<\/p>\n<p>I say this because this publication will likely be the final biography about\u00a0<i>El Ni\u00f1o de Jerez<\/i>, due to its magnitude and quality. It\u2019s not only the best and most exhaustive work that has been done until now about this artist, but it\u2019s the best that has been ever made about any flamenco\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>, and that\u2019s something we must thank Carlos Mart\u00edn for, who will continue contributing his enthusiasm, wisdom and passion. No one knows better than him the world of vintage discography, that of slate records, and we are all lucky because he\u2019s a generous man who is willing to risk his own assets so we can all know more about the legacy of those heroes of\u00a0<i>cante jondo<\/i>\u00a0who, as in the case of Manuel, died in misery.<\/p>\n<p>This second volume of the collection under Carlos Mart\u00edn\u2019s name, devoted to the brilliant Torres, goes to prove that we are doing the right things in this field, flamenco research, which is so important for making available to our young artists and aficionados a trustworthy source to learn from. The next volume will feature\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!El-abuelo-recuerda-a-Tom%C3%A1s-Pav%C3%B3n\/c112t\/56ef66b60cf276e9de24fb4d\">Tom\u00e1s Pav\u00f3n<\/a>, other genius of\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>, born in the Puerta Osario district of Seville and brother of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Cuarenta-y-seis-a%C3%B1os-sin-Pastora\/c112t\/565548780cf2a1cf6d1811d5\">Ni\u00f1a de los Peines<\/a>. Chac\u00f3n, Torres and Tom\u00e1s, three indispensable pillars for the understanding all the theory of the best\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>\u00a0in history.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Translated by P.
