Considering the result, it seems unfair that this is his first solo concert in this festival of Seville. If he is so good, how come none of the previous festival directors invited him to perform as a concert guitarist? I assume it\u2019s because this son of the (also) guitarist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Lebrijano-y-Pedro-Pe%C3%B1a\/c112t\/576395ad0cf2c6c572676c9b\">Pedro Pe\u00f1a<\/a>and nephew of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!El-abuelo-y-Juan-Pe%C3%B1a-El-Lebrijano\/c112t\/578855aa0cf28653c964403e\">Juan El Lebrijano<\/a>\u00a0wasn\u2019t what we would call a flamenco concert guitarist, but rather a guitarist of accompaniment. There are few true concert guitarists, although all guitarists seem to believe that\u2019s what they are and want to make their own solo records.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/entrevistas-archivos\/me-identifico-con-aquel-joven-enamorado-de-la-guitarra-cargado-de-ilusiones\">Pedro Pe\u00f1a Dorantes<\/a>\u00a0is a renowned member of one of the great flamenco families in Seville province, from Lebrija, to be specific. The Pe\u00f1as are for Seville what the Ortegas are for C\u00e1diz: an essential artistic dynasty. We would not need to go too far back in time in order to start talking about this Gypsy lineage but suffice to say that he\u2019s the grandson of Mar\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez Granados,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2017\/08\/31\/La-Perrata\"><i>La Perrata<\/i><\/a><\/em>, his maternal grandmother and sister of the great\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Perrate-de-Utrera\/c112t\/56cf7c600cf29064e5f24d50\">Perrate de Utrera<\/a>, without a doubt one of the best Gypsy\u00a0<i>cantaores<\/i>\u00a0of the 20th century. I don\u2019t think I have to say that in his endless list of renowned relatives are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Fernanda-de-Utrera\/c112t\/55f752d80cf20cc524a8f191\">Fernanda<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!Bernarda-de-Utrera\/c112t\/56cf7eca0cf2f9aefdc453ee\">Bernarda<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2015\/9\/7\/Miguel-Funi-una-Giralda-de-Lebrija\">Miguel Funi<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/single-post\/2017\/08\/31\/Pedro-Bac%C3%A1n\">Pedro Bac\u00e1n<\/a>, to name just a few.<\/p>\n<p>That means that our protagonist in today\u2019s article was born in the midst of a family devoted to art, so art is part of him. Not just\u00a0<i>toque<\/i>, but also\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>, because he\u2019s also a very good singer, and very Gypsy at that, as we would expect. It was only natural, then, that he would become a professional flamenco artist, which is what he has been doing his whole life. Has his moment of glory finally arrived? Perhaps. I mean, as a concert guitarist. We have to say that Antonio Zoido, the director of the\u00a0<i>Bienal<\/i>, invited him to perform in a theater as a concert guitarist in this festival of Seville because he\u2019s the husband of a sister of his mother. I\u2019m not saying this to offend anyone, but because it\u2019s true. I\u2019m not saying that Pedro didn\u2019t deserve this opportunity either, because he\u2019s a good artist with a lot of experience. I\u2019m just saying this so everyone knows the details of this interesting story about the success of Pedrito Pe\u00f1a in this festival of Seville.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t you think that many other guitarists, such as Pedro, would deserve an opportunity to perform in the best flamenco festival in the world? I know of at least ten who would do a pretty good job and, if I\u2019m not mistaken, none of them have ever performed at the\u00a0<i>Bienal<\/i>, because they don\u2019t belong to any artistic dynasty or aren\u2019t nephews of Zoido or of any of the previous directors. If we dwell into\u00a0<i>baile<\/i>, we must say that big injustices are being made, as it happens with the great\u00a0<i>bailaor<\/i>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.expoflamenco.net\/#!El-Junco\/c112t\/5750ebae0cf2b2ec517bc305\">El Junco<\/a>, from C\u00e1diz, whose projects have always been rejected by this festival\u2019s directors.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<i>Bienal<\/i>\u00a0is a great festival with a substantial budget and many possibilities, which can be the best platform for launching the career of artists who are struggling to make themselves known in their own specialties. Pedrito Pe\u00f1a has already had his opportunity and has greatly succeeded, according to the critics. He has succeeded because he\u2019s worth it, not because he\u2019s the nephew of Zoido. And if he\u2019s worth now, he has always been worth it. I mean to say that I hope that this is not a one-off wonderful adventure and that he keeps being invited to perform at the\u00a0<i>Bienal<\/i>\u00a0and at many other festivals around the world.
