The Mont-de-Marsan<\/strong> Festival Arte Flamenco <\/strong>is one of the biggest flamenco festivals outside of Spain. It was first held in 1989 and has now become established as one of the major events in the international flamenco scene. Its 32nd<\/sup> edition will take place between June 29th<\/sup> and July 3rd<\/sup>, 2021.<\/p>\n

This festival in France\u2019s Landes department is an essential event in the flamenco calendar, not just for French aficionados but also for those in Spain and other countries. This edition will be somehow restricted due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, but flamenco cannot be stopped. All events will be held at the Mont-de-Marsan bullfighting ring at 9:30 PM.<\/p>\n

The festival will start on Tuesday, June 29th<\/sup>, with the performance of bailaora<\/em> Rafaela Carrasco<\/strong>. \u00abFrom the traditional school of Andalusian art. Perfection and excellence, as a worthy heir of the great Matilde Coral, from whom she learned so much. Expressive and delicate, this choreographer personifies flamenco with her warm, conceptual vision\u00bb, stated the organizers regarding Carrasco.<\/p>\n

For the first time outside of Spain, Rafaela\u2019s will perform her new show Al hilo del mito<\/strong><\/em>, where she confronts the myth of Ariadne, a flamenco trip in the context of a Greek tragedy. This shows features loneliness, love, dreams of freedom, betrayal, a stone wall and sunflower gardens.<\/p>\n

This show will feature Rafaela Carrasco, Rafael Ram\u00edrez, Gabriel Mat\u00edas, Ricardo Moro<\/strong> and Felipe Clivio<\/strong> in baile<\/em>, Antonio Campos<\/strong> and Miguel Ortega<\/strong> in cante<\/em>, and Jes\u00fas Torres<\/strong> and Juan Antonio Su\u00e1rez Cano<\/strong> in toque<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The program continues with Pedro Ricardo Mi\u00f1o<\/strong> on June 30th<\/sup>, with his show Universo jondo<\/em>, featuring Anabel Valencia<\/strong> and El Choro<\/strong> as invited guests. Pedro Ricardo Mi\u00f1o, from Triana, is a veritable prodigy of piano, being the recipient of several Giraldillo<\/em> awards. Paco Vega<\/strong> will join him with percussion and Manuel Valencia<\/strong> and Manuel Cantarote<\/strong> will do palmas<\/em>.<\/p>\n

July 1st<\/sup> is the turn of Manuela Carrasco<\/strong>, Esperanza Fern\u00e1ndez, La Tana<\/strong> and Zamara Carrasco<\/strong> in Aires de mujer<\/em>. Manuela, one of the goddesses of baile<\/em>, a living legend, will share the stage with her daughter Manuela Carrasco. Everything will be under the spell of Esperanza Fern\u00e1ndez\u2019s voice, the freshness of La Tana and the intensity of Zama Carrasco. Percussion by Jos\u00e9 Carrasco<\/strong> and toque<\/em> by Joaqu\u00edn Amador<\/strong> and Antonio \u00d1o\u00f1o<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The second-to-last show, Voces<\/em>, will feature El Pele<\/strong> and Pedro el Grana\u00edno<\/strong>. It will take place on July 2nd,  the anniversary of Camar\u00f3n\u2019s death. These cantaores<\/em> will perform a mano a mano<\/em>, completed by Farruquito as invited artist. This is one of the most eagerly expected shows.<\/p>\n

The festival ends on July 3rd<\/sup> with the show Inicio (uno)<\/em>, featuring two flamenco geniuses: Roc\u00edo Molina<\/strong> and Rafael Riqueni<\/strong>. \u00abThe master from Seville, an artist with the stature of Paco de Luc\u00eda, has created some of the masterpieces of flamenco guitar, from Juegos de Ni\u00f1os<\/em> to Mi tiempo<\/em>\u00bb, stated the organizers. In turn, the bailaora<\/em> from M\u00e1laga, awarded the Premio Nacional de Danza<\/em> when she was 26 years old, \u00abgoes beyond avant-gardisme<\/em>, when it comes to research, technical skill and precision, without forgetting her sensibility and artistic emotion\u00bb, said the festival organizers.<\/p>\n

Besides these shows, the festival will feature an exhibition titled Baila, baila con la luna<\/em> at the Despiau-Wl\u00e9rick Museum<\/strong> from June 30th<\/sup> to July 4th<\/sup>, from 10 AM to 7 PM, and from July 7th<\/sup> and August 29th<\/sup>, between 10 AM and 12 PM, and 2 PM and 6 PM. This exhibition evokes a sensible relationship between dance and the movements of the universe. The steps of baile<\/em>, the movement of the hands in the air, the lines followed by the bodies, under the skies, echoing the movement and twinkle of the stars in a cosmic euphoria.<\/p>\n

\u00abFlamenco and the moon, fandango at dusk, whirling dervishes between heaven and earth, playful choreographies in the sweet nights, all these connections appear in the crossroad of works and contemporary sculptures of the museum\u2019s collection\u00bb, concluded the organizers.<\/p>\n

The festival\u2019s poster was conceived by the artista Hippolyte<\/a>. The Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, Extenda-Andaluc\u00eda and the Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Education nationale, de la Jeunesse et des Sports<\/em> contributed to the organization of this festival.<\/p>\n
