Can you imagine listening to a sole\u00e1<\/em> on a beach near S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil? It\u2019s hard to image, but perhaps you\u2019ve crossed paths with someone like Flavio Rodrigues<\/strong><\/a> (born in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, in 1979), who has showcased his talent in more than forty different countries in all five continents. He has performed with great flamenco stars such as Miguel Poveda, Pepe Habichuela, Antonio Canales<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Farruco<\/strong>, and with other legends such as Paco de Luc\u00eda, Mark Knopfler, Deep Purple and Eric Clapton.<\/p>\n

Mar\u00eda Isabel Rodr\u00edguez Palop<\/a>, a journalist from Extremadura who has been writing reviews and doing interviews for over a decade in her region, and interviewed by our colleague Quico P\u00e9rez-Ventana\u00a0for Expoflamenco<\/a>\u00a0on occasion of the release of her book\u00a0Flamenco para Dummies<\/em><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 edited by Grupo Planeta \u2014, reveals for us in Infoprovincia.net<\/strong>\u00a0this Brazilian talent who is releasing his second studio album, Quintaesencia<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00abIn alchemy, quintaescencia<\/em> (\u201cquintessence\u201d) is the most essential particle, the maximum expression of something. That\u2019s why I wanted to give this title to my album. I wanted to express what I understand to be flamenco\u2019s essential particle, with essential and very representative styles: tarantas, ton\u00e1s, fandangos, canti\u00f1as, sole\u00e1s, ca\u00f1as, seguiriyas, etc<\/em>. A selection of essential palos, branches of what we understand as flamenco. I\u2019ve tried to [make this album] from this concept\u00bb, expressed the artist to Palop Flamenco<\/strong>\u00a0in infoprovincia.net.<\/p>\n

\u00abFlamenco is quite popular in Brazil. This is mainly because of baile, like it also happens in Spain. Theaters get full whenever baile is featured! \u00bb (Flavio Rodrigues)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The album features nine tracks, including buler\u00edas de Jerez, tangos extreme\u00f1os, canti\u00f1as, sole\u00e1s, fandangos naturales<\/em> and much more. Besides, artists such as Duquende, Jorge Pardo, Diego Amador, Antonio Serrano<\/strong>, Guadiana, Eva Dur\u00e1n, Diego del Morao, Tony Maya, Mar\u00eda Carmona, Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez, David Lagos, Mar\u00eda la Coneja, David Moreira, Concha Jare\u00f1o, Miguel Soto Londro, Manuel Reyes, Pedro Obreg\u00f3n, Antonio Ramos Maca, Roberto Lorente, Mayte Maya, Ant\u00f3n Su\u00e1rez, Blanca L\u00f3pez, Antonio Maya El Salvaje and Carmina Cort\u00e9s have collaborated with the Brazilian artist in this album. Quite a list!<\/p>\n

Flavio Rodrigues makes a monumental summary of his twenty-five years in flamenco, many of them lived in Spain, because he has been living in Madrid since 1998. This artist has been awarded the prizes of the Festival de M\u00fasica de Madrid<\/em> and 100 Latinos<\/em>. This is his second album, after Anyway<\/strong>, released in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u00abCante flamenco<\/em>. The quintessence of flamenco is cante<\/em>. I cannot comprehend flamenco without cante<\/em>. That\u2019s why it features so prominently in this album\u00bb, explained this artist in the Flamenco Palop interview, when asked what is flamenco\u2019s quintessence, in his opinion.<\/p>\n

\u00abFlamenco is quite popular in Brazil. This is mainly because of baile<\/em>, as it also happens in Spain. Theaters get full whenever baile<\/em> is featured! There are many [flamenco] academies and also many Brazilian artists live in Spain, undertaking and important work in behalf of flamenco in my country, without any support from either country\u00bb, stated Rodrigues regarding flamenco art in his birthplace.<\/p>\n
