I\u2019m more into cante, but I\u2019ve sen a lot of good baile<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Is today\u2019s baile any good? Are there any good bailaores and bailaoras? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Of course there are! There aren\u2019t a lot of geniuses, but today\u2019s artists of baile are the most skilled ever. Although, I wish there was less technique and more soul, which is what I miss the most. And less circus, there\u2019s too much circus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Too much dance disguised as flamenco, right?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-You\u2019ve said it, kid. Exactly, that\u2019s what it is. It\u2019s like those flamenco guitarists who decide to play jazz or rock. I told it once to Paco de Luc\u00eda himself: \u201cPaco, in flamenco you\u2019re number one, the best of all times, but not in everything else.\u201d He took it well, actually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Do you like any of today bailaores?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Of course I do! The most flamenco of them all is Pepe Torres, the grandson of cantaor Joselero de Mor\u00f3n (who actually wasn\u2019t from Mor\u00f3n, but from Puebla de Cazalla.) Pepito dances, sings and plays the guitar. He\u2019s a heck of an artist. But as a dancer, he\u2019s the best, at least in his region\u2019s tradition. It\u2019s like if he had inside Pepe R\u00edos, Farruco,Andorrano, and Rafael el Negro\u2026 The best part is that he doesn\u2019t fake it: he dances from his heart, with impressive ease, without theatrics. I also like another one from C\u00e1diz, El Junco. He\u2019s one of the best, yet those in charge of the Bienal festival have never heard of him, it seems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-So isn\u2019t he well known, grandpa?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Not at all. It happens, it\u2019s always been like that. The same goes for Dieguito el de la Margara, from Jerez. And a pata\u00edta by Dieguito is worth more than all those bad dance and flamenco fusion productions out there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-What about the bailaores with a more modern style, grandpa?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-El Grilo, I love him. He\u2019s creative, innovative, he has grace and a lot of talent. He doesn\u2019t copy anyone, and I like that, because there\u2019s a lot of mimicking in today\u2019s baile. Israel Galv\u00e1n is a genius, he\u2019s the greatest, but I think he\u2019s been rather boring lately. He has great merit, but he created thirty movements and twenty poses and that\u2019s all you see in all his productions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-What about the Farrucos?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-They keep the family tradition, and that\u2019s worth of praise. The grandfather, Antonio El Farruco, who was friend of mine, was the best of his time, a genius. The kids imitate him a bit, but they go beyond, they\u2019ve evolved towards baile espectacle, perhaps more commercial, but based in their grandfather\u2019s purity. They are youngsters commited to preserve the family tradition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-What about the bailaoras? <\/strong><strong>There\u2019s a lot to talk here, grandpa. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-There are seven or eight really good ones, when it comes to classic baile: Manuela Carrasco, Pepa Montes, Milagros Meng\u00edbar, Carmen Ledesma\u2026 Heirs to the classic Sevillan school are Isabel Bay\u00f3n, Manuela Vargas (daughter of Angelita Vargas) and Pastora Galv\u00e1n. Mar\u00eda del Mar Moreno, from Jerez, has a unique style and lost of art. I also love Luisa Palicio, from M\u00e1laga, who is among the youngest. Then we have the great artists, such as Mar\u00eda Pag\u00e9s and La Yerbabuena, and among the innovators we have Roc\u00edo Molina, Ana Morales, Rosario Toledo\u2026 There are so many, it\u2019s impossible to name them all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Would you dare to say from where is the best baile in Andalusia, from which province? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-The province of Seville has always had the best baile. Mind you, everyone came (and still comes) to Seville and that has created a unique tradition. In Triana and in Utrera, for example, there is wonderful baile. Also in Jerez(1), of course. A genius would sometimes appear in another province, such as Mario Maya or Manolete, both from Granada. But the most flamenco baile, at least in my opinion are from the provinces of Seville and C\u00e1diz. The same goes for cante and toque. Granada may have a genius like Morente, but Seville and C\u00e1diz have given us dozens of geniuses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Is the future promising, grandpa? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-For sure it is. Wherever there is talent, there is good baile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Would you name a bailaor who is unique?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Farruco.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-A bailaora?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Manuela Carrasco.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-A choreographer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Antonio Gades.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-A female choreographer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Mar\u00eda Pag\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-The best bata de cola?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Milagros Meng\u00edbar\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-The best pata\u00edta?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Mora\u00edto Chico\u2019s.(2)<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Thanks grandpa.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The province of Seville has always had the best baile.
