In the afternoon of Friday, March 6<sup>th<\/sup>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juntadeandalucia.es\/organismos\/culturaypatrimoniohistorico.html\">Culture and Heritage Council<\/a>\u00a0of the <em>Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/em> made the announcement through its press office: <strong>Ricardo Pach\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0was no longer director of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.juntadeandalucia.es\/cultura\/flamenco\/\">Instituto Andaluz de Flamenco<\/a><\/em><strong>\u00a0(IAF)<\/strong>, the most important flamenco institution in the world. Thus, as established by its regulations, \u00abthe\u00a0<strong><em>Agencia\u00a0Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales<\/em><\/strong> begins the process of opening a new public bidding for the position of director of the IAF, with procedures ensuring free participation of the public. Until such process is concluded, the direction of the <em>Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco<\/em> will be directly exercised by the general secretary of Cultural Innovations and Museums and director of the <em>Agencia Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>Mar S\u00e1nchez Estrella<\/strong><strong>\u00bb<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ricardo Pach\u00f3n signed his contract as director on October 16<sup>th<\/sup>, 2019, so his work at the helm of the IAF lasted less than five months. The choice of the octogenarian producer as the highest authority in flamenco was very controversial from the start, especially due to Pach\u00f3n refusal to consider any non-Gypsy element as part of flamenco.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s peculiar how the wording of the press release doesn\u2019t make clear whether this has been a voluntary or involuntary layoff, or a straight dismissal. There had been leaks from the <em>Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/em> for days about this imminent dismissal, and the news didn\u2019t take anyone by surprise. The critic and flamencologist <strong>Manuel Boh\u00f3rquez<\/strong>\u00a0already wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/elcorreoweb.es\/opinion\/columnas\/se-va-o-echan-a-ricardo-pachon-del-instituto-andaluz-del-flamenco-ME6431970\">in the early morning of Friday<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0<em>El Correo de Andaluc\u00eda<\/em> newspaper: \u00abAccording to my sources, he was dismissed on Tuesday afternoon\u00bb.
