Growing up among clocks and watches, <strong>Luisa Palicio<\/strong>\u00a0has experienced the passing of time like an obsession. This obsession has now blossomed in <em>Tempus<\/em>, a production which will be premiered on February 25<sup>th<\/sup> at the <em>Festival de Jerez<\/em>, five years after she was awarded the Revelation Prize in that festival. As this <em>bailaora<\/em> and choreographer explains, \u201cmy thoughts about time are not scientific or philosophical, but emotional\u201d. The creative team of this production, her third one after <em>Sevilla<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Biznaga<\/em>, includes award-winner <strong>Alejandro Cruz<\/strong> as artistic and musical director and the guitarist <strong>Jes\u00fas Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>\u00a0as composer. Both of them will also perform in the show. The cast also features <em>cantaores<\/em> <strong>Ana G\u00f3mez<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Javier Rivera<\/strong>, percussionist\u00a0<strong>David Chupete<\/strong>\u00a0and the special collaboration of <em>bailaor<\/em>\u00a0<strong>Alejandro Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>. With this production of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flamencoheeren.com\/es\/\">Cristina Heeren Foundation<\/a>, this <em>bailaora<\/em> wants to portray \u201ca different Luisa Palicio\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlamenco is able to stop time with emotions\u201d. That\u2019s why Luisa Palicio goes beyond rhythm and <em>comp\u00e1s<\/em> in <em>Tempus<\/em>. It\u2019s precisely in the 24<sup>th<\/sup> edition of the <em>Festival de Jerez<\/em>, which focuses on Flamenco and Spanish dance, where the world premiere of this show will take place on February 25<sup>th<\/sup>, 2020, at 7 PM in the <em>Sala Compa\u00f1\u00eda<\/em> venue, opening the series <em>Con nombre propio<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This show is produced by the <em>Fundaci\u00f3n Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco<\/em>, the institution where this <em>bailaora<\/em> honed her skills and is now a teacher, mentored by <strong>Milagros Menj\u00edbar<\/strong> and specializing in the Seville school of <em>baile<\/em>. This style has shaped her personality, having the <em>bata de cola<\/em> and the <em>mant\u00f3n<\/em> as her trademarks. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be separated from this vital aspect of my personality\u201d, explained the artist, \u201cbut I want to give a space to choreographic concepts which are new for me\u201d. Thus, Luisa Palicio, awarded the <em>Giraldillo Revelaci\u00f3n<\/em> prize at the 2006 <em>Bienal de Sevilla<\/em>, explores new paths in her <em>baile<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The element that has changed is the theatrical language. Alejandro Cruz Benavides\u2019 stage and musical direction \u201copens my mind\u201d, admits the artist. Her relationship with the director has been one of \u201charmony and affinity\u201d ever since they first met in her first production. \u201cHe always comes up with ideas for me, very clear ideas\u201d, she explains. Besides, the director also performs as a musician on stage, playing the piano, keyboards and melodica. \u00a0In the musical creation, he\u2019s joined by guitarist Jes\u00fas Rodr\u00edguez, a young artist from Mairena del Alcor who has also studied in the Foundation. <em>Cantaores <\/em>Ana G\u00f3mez, from C\u00e1diz, and Javier Rivera, from Seville, have also attended this institution. The cast is rounded up by percussionist David Chupete. Other members of the team are <strong>Antonio Valiente<\/strong>, (lightning);\u00a0<strong>Chema Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, (staging);\u00a0<strong>F\u00e9lix V\u00e1zquez<\/strong>, (sound and photography) and\u00a0<strong>Jos\u00e9 Galv\u00e1n<\/strong>, (costumes).<\/p>\n<p><em>Alegr\u00edas al rev\u00e9s, tanguillos, serranas <\/em>and<em> tarantos<\/em> are some of the styles that this artist will perform in this new production, which is also sponsored by the <em>Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco<\/em> <em>and Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/em>\u2019s Culture and Historical Heritage Council. The flamenco repertoire is complemented with covers of themes such as <em>Canci\u00f3n de las simples cosas<\/em>\u00a0and a percussion duet with <em>bailaor<\/em> Alejandro Rodr\u00edguez, from C\u00f3rdoba, in a special collaboration as invited artist \u201cin a more contemporary and conceptual piece\u201d.
