There is no question that flamenco has become globalized<\/a>. Although it\u2019s a quintessentially Spanish art form, it has crossed boundaries and now it belongs to the whole world. Flamenco was officially designated UNESCO\u2019s Intangible Cultural Heritage on November 16th<\/sup>, 2010, and every year International Flamenco Day<\/a> is celebrated on this date. On occasion of this event, the digital media website La Estrella de Panam\u00e1<\/a>\u00a0published an interesting feature with a lot of comp\u00e1s<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The number of flamenco academies keeps growing around the world, from Chile, Argentina and Costa Rica to Japan, M\u00e9xico<\/a>\u00a0\u2014the two countries with the most flamenco academies after Spain \u2014 and Panam\u00e1 itself, where flamenco is virtually a religion. \u00abI fell in love for flamenco when I was sever years old and I haven\u2019t stopped dancing ever since. It\u2019s already been 27 years full or art and baile<\/em>. As Intangible Cultural Heritage it represents an artistic movement of great importance in the world and in the comprehensive development of human beings\u00bb, explained\u00a0Beatriz Rached<\/strong>, bailaora and teacher at Academia FBR<\/a>, in a statement for La Estrella de Panam\u00e1<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Luciana Castillo<\/strong>, teacher at Academia Flamenco Panam\u00e1<\/em>, clearly understands that the difficulty and complexity of flamenco is one of the main appeals of this art for bailaores<\/em> and bailaoras<\/em> all over the world. \u00abThe complexity of flamenco is in the feelings of the bailaor<\/em>, it\u2019s something that\u2019s not easy to express or describe and each individual must learn how to show it from within, supporting the cantaor\u00bb, stated Castillo for the website mentioned above.<\/p>\n

Technique and dance can be learned with effort and dedication. \u00abIt\u2019s very important to point out that there is no age limit to begin flamenco lessons\u00bb, said Rached. However, it\u2019s essential to \u00abfeel passion when dancing\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00abOne day, flamenco won\u2019t be considered just as a Spanish dance genre, but as a musical genre known all over the world such as blues\u00bb (Joan Borrell, Spanish Embassy in Panama)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For many years, this art genre has been gaining popularity with numerous activities such as the Festival Flamenco de Panam\u00e1<\/a><\/em>. However, this popularity has grown most significantly in the last decade. \u00abIn the last ten years we\u2019ve noticed a strong influence of modern flamenco and we\u2019ve perceived a great acceptance. Each day we can attest that Panama\u2019s flamenco community is growing and it\u2019s a great honor being part of this cultural movement\u00bb, proudly stated Beatriz Rached.<\/p>\n

Although flamenco is closely associated with Spain, the contribution of Latin America to this art form is noteworthy. \u00abLatin America has greatly contributed to flamenco with the so-called cantes de ida y vuelta<\/em> such as Cuban guajira<\/em>s and Puerto Rican rumbas<\/em>\u00bb, noted Paola Tamayo<\/strong>,\u00a0teacher and bailaora<\/em> at Academia Flamenco Panam\u00e1<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On December 14th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup>, the show Gitanas<\/em>, produced by the company FBR, will be performed at the Pacific Theater. \u00abFlamenco is infinite, it never gets old and it\u2019s always re-inventing itself. That\u2019s why it will always have appeal, because if nurtures the soul beyond a physical presence\u00bb, stated Rached.<\/p>\n

Festival Flamenco de Panam\u00e1 2019<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

On June 15th<\/sup>, the sixth edition of the Festival Flamenco de Panam\u00e1<\/a><\/em> took place at the Anayansi Theater<\/a>, in the Atlapa Convention Center. This production was in charge of dancer Anita Loynaz,<\/strong>\u00a0with flamenco bailaor<\/em> Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez Montoya El Farru<\/strong> as the starring artist.<\/p>\n

\u00abFlamenco is a dance genre with no boundaries, despite all the different nationalities of those who perform it\u00bb, stated Anita Loynaz. \u00abOne day, flamenco won\u2019t be considered just as a Spanish dance genre, but as a musical genre known all over the world such as blues\u00bb, concluded Joan Borrell<\/strong>, from the Spanish Embassy in Panama<\/a>.<\/p>\n
