This November, C\u00f3rdoba is hosting the 22nd<\/sup> National Flamenco Art Contest<\/a>. In this edition, dozens of cantaores, bailaores and guitarists will come to compete in the so-called contest of contests<\/em>, the only one to award a National Prize. Besides the different phases of this contest which takes place every three years and will be held between November 5th<\/sup> and November 23rd<\/sup>, C\u00f3rdoba will also host a series of shows, most of them premieres, to further promote this important event.<\/p>\n

In this occasion, the different theaters of the city will host up to five shows, besides the prize awards gala, where the winners will perform and which will take place on November 23rd<\/sup>. These shows begin on November 9th<\/sup> with the production of Javier Latorre<\/strong>, who is celebrating fifty years in dance. The premiere of this greatly awaited show will have the participation of many other artists, such as Eva Yerbabuena, Paco Jarana, Marco Flores, Mercedes de C\u00f3rdoba, La Moneta<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Antonio Campos<\/strong>, among others as iconic as the Japanese bailaor<\/em> Shoji Kojima<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This flamenco celebration will continue on Friday, November 15th<\/sup> with the production El sombrero<\/em>, by\u00a0Rafael Est\u00e9vez<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Valeriano Pa\u00f1os<\/strong>. According to its authors, this show evokes a new fantasy inspired in the creative process of a landmark production of Spanish ballet, Manuel de Falla<\/strong>\u2018s El Sombrero de tres picos<\/em>. The following day, November 16th<\/sup>, will be the turn of another premiere. In this occasion, Manuel Moreno Maya\u00a0El Pele<\/strong>\u00a0will tackle his show Mapamundi<\/em>, under the musical direction of Jos\u00e9 Miguel \u00c9vora<\/strong>. This flamenco animal<\/em>, as critics have described this artist numerous times, will be back at the Gran Teatro to show why he is one of the most acclaimed cantaores<\/em> of our days.<\/p>\n

The following week, on November 21st<\/sup>, the Teatro G\u00f3ngora<\/a>\u00a0will host the premiere of the movie Valle Incl\u00e1n y Julio Romero, un pintor para una ciudad<\/em>. In March of this year, the house where Julio Romero de Torres<\/strong>\u00a0was born and Potro Square became the backdrop for this greatly awaited film. Miguel \u00c1ngel<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0F\u00e1tima Entrenas<\/strong>\u00a0intend to use this biographical movie to highlight one of the most important painters of C\u00f3rdoba, who also had a deep friendship with the novelist from Galicia Ram\u00f3n Mar\u00eda del Valle Incl\u00e1n<\/strong>, who was also one of his main patrons.<\/p>\n

Finally, and before the gala of November 23rd<\/sup> which will feature the winners of the present edition of the National Flamenco Art Contest of C\u00f3rdoba, the cantaora<\/em> Mayte Mart\u00edn<\/strong>\u00a0will perform the show Memento<\/em> at the G\u00f3ngora theater. Joined by Alejandro Hurtado<\/strong>\u00a0on the guitar, this concert is part of the Flamenco Heritage Week of the Centro Flamenco Fosforito<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Other shows, publications and presentations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Tuesday, November 19th<\/sup>, and Wednesday November 20th<\/sup>, the Anabel Veloso<\/strong>\u00a0company will perform the show El \u00e1rbol con alas <\/em>(\u2018The Tree with Wings\u2019<\/em>), aimed for a younger audience. These shows, meant for school-age children, will take place at 10 AM and 12 PM.<\/p>\n

Finally, the official catalogue of this edition will be published with audiovisual media showing the performances of the winning artists of the 2016 edition.<\/p>\n
