Flamenco is in vogue in the country of the Aztecs. Mexico is the third country with the greatest number of flamenco academies, after Spain and Japan, according to Adriana Covarrubias<\/strong>, founder and general director of the Festival Ib\u00e9rica Contempor\u00e1nea<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

This festival has been held every two years in Quer\u00e9taro state since 2007, and in July 2019 it celebrated its seventh edition. It is without a doubt the biggest flamenco event in all Latin America, and it focuses on baile flamenco<\/em> and Spanish classical dance. Eighty artists performed at the Metropolitan Theater<\/strong>, the\u00a0Art Museum<\/strong>\u00a0and the City Museum<\/strong>, in Santiago de Quer\u00e9taro, between July 6th<\/sup> and July 20th<\/sup>, 2019. Among the performing artists were La Truco<\/strong>, Manuel Montoya\u00a0El Carpeta<\/strong>,\u00a0Mar\u00eda Juncal<\/strong>,\u00a0Eduardo Guerrero<\/strong>,\u00a0Mar\u00eda Moreno<\/strong>, Crist\u00f3bal\u00a0Reyes<\/strong>,\u00a0Ana Morales<\/strong>,\u00a0Compa\u00f1\u00eda Ib\u00e9rica de Danza<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and the Larreal<\/strong>\u00a0choreographic workshop of the Mariemma<\/strong><\/em> Conservatory in Madrid. One of the novelties in this edition was the participation of the Symphonic Orchestra of Quer\u00e9taro State<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u00abWe carry flamenco in our veins, even more so as it was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO\u00bb (Adriana Covarrubias)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Another festival with immense popularity in Mexico\u2019s northern states, and among many Americans who cross the border eager to experience flamenco, is Flamenco Tam Fest<\/em><\/a>. It is one on the most important international festivals in the northeast of Mexico. It’s 2019 edition took place between May 16th<\/sup> and May 19th<\/sup> in the city of Tampico. Flamenco Tam Fest 2019<\/em> included a multitude of open-air activities, a flashmob<\/em> and a gastronomic showcase, besides the Great Gala at the Espacio Cultural Metropolitano<\/em><\/strong>, featuring bailaor<\/em>\u00a0Iv\u00e1n Vargas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Adriana Covarrubias stated to Mexico\u2019s Diario Rotativo<\/em>\u00a0that \u00abflamenco and Spanish dance are very popular in Mexico, because people relate to its music, its lyrics and everything that can be expressed through body language\u00bb. According to the founder of the Centro de Danza y Arte Proart<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in Quer\u00e9taro, flamenco has become a universal dance genre, as more and more people around the world becomes passionate about this art form. This is particularly true in Mexico, as \u00abflamenco is part of our heritage, because even as we may have aboriginal roots, everything from Spain is familiar to us. We carry flamenco in our veins, even more so since it was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Between June 7th<\/sup> and June 8th<\/sup>, the 1st<\/sup> Flamenco Conference in Mexico 2019<\/strong> was held at the Centro Cultural de Espa\u00f1a en M\u00e9xico<\/a><\/em>, located in Mexico City\u2019s historic downtown. The main goal of this Conference, which included workshops and lectures, was to \u00abprovide management tools for artists and students of flamenco and Spanish dance in Mexico who wish to undertake theatrical or academic projects, giving them a foundation where they can structure their ideas and bring them to fruition with all the necessary theoretical aspects\u00bb. This event was organized by the academy and company Tauro Flamenco A.C.<\/a>\u00a0and the Escuela de Flamenco de Andaluc\u00eda<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n
