Baile<\/em>\u2019s \u2018creative energy\u2019 is all over the program of the 24th<\/sup> Festival de Jerez<\/a>, which will take place between February 21st<\/sup> and March 7th<\/sup>, 2020. This was announced by Mamen S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>, mayor of Jerez, in the presentation of the artistic program to the media. This event was also attended by Patricia del Pozo, the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/em>\u2019s Culture and Heritage advisor, and Isamay Benavente, director of the festival, as well as by representatives of contributing organizations and businesses.<\/p>\n

That creative ability will translate into twelve premieres in the different venues of the festival. At the Villamarta Theater<\/strong>, \u201cthe Festival starts with the new production of Rafaela Carrasco and ends with the performance of the new choreographies of the Ballet Nacional de Espa\u00f1a<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0under the direction of Rub\u00e9n Olmo<\/strong>\u201d, added the first municipal authority. Shows by Antonio El Pipa, Andr\u00e9s Pe\u00f1a<\/strong>\u00a0and Pilar Ogalla, Marco Flores<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Shoji Kojima Company<\/strong> will also be featured.<\/p>\n

That \u201ccreative energy\u201d will also be present at Sala Pa\u00fal<\/strong>\u00a0with the productions of de\u00a0Bel\u00e9n Maya<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 together with guitarist Juan Diego Mateos \u2014,\u00a0Paula Comitre, Hiniesta Cort\u00e9s<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Carmen Herrera<\/strong>. And it will also reach Sala Compa\u00f1\u00eda<\/strong>, where shows by \u00c1ngel Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Luisa Palicio<\/strong> will be performed.<\/p>\n

Mamen S\u00e1nchez highlighted the participation in the program of several artists who were awarded national prizes in dance, such as Isabel Bay\u00f3n, Sara Baras, Manuel Li\u00f1\u00e1n<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Olga Pericet<\/strong>, besides Rub\u00e9n Olmo and\u00a0Javier Latorre<\/strong>, the latter as choreographer. It\u2019s a \u201cbrilliant generation of baile<\/em>\u201d which includes, according to the mayor, artists such as Rafael Est\u00e9vez\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Nani Pa\u00f1os, Mercedes Ruiz, Eduardo Guerrero<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Mar\u00eda Moreno<\/strong>, among others<\/p>\n

The Festival de Jerez continues to open its stages to the \u201cunstoppable craze\u201d of flamenco performances all over the world<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

La Fiesta <\/em>series<\/em><\/h2>\n

\u201cOne of the novelties in the next edition of the Festival is the La Fiesta<\/em> series programmed at the Claustros de Santo Domingo <\/em>venue\u201d, she stated. This series highlights flamenco\u2019s festive character, \u201cbased on its association with family dynasties or with specific geographical areas\u201d. There will be a wide variety of events focusing in two days and meant \u201cfor those who visit us during a weekend\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Festival de Jerez<\/em> continues to open its stages to the \u201cunstoppable craze\u201d of flamenco performances all over the world. \u201cThat \u2018Foreign Legion\u2019 of flamenco won\u2019t just be represented by Shoji Kojima, one of its pioneers, but will also include the winners of the Concurso Internacional Flamenco Puro de Tur\u00edn<\/em><\/strong>, which took place last year in this city\u201d, she stated. Likewise, she announced that this contest will again be held in Jerez during the week before the start of the festival.<\/p>\n

Guitar and cante <\/em>will also feature in specific series. The public will be able to enjoy the \u201cgood vintage\u201d emanating from the guitars in the hands of Rafael Riqueni, Paco Jarana<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Manuel Le\u00f3n<\/strong>. Regarding cante<\/em>, El Cabrero<\/strong> will be honored as he performs in his last tour before retiring from the stages, and David Carpio<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Miguel Lavi<\/strong> will showcase their interpretative maturity. The voices of Mar\u00eda Vargas, Mateo Sole\u00e1<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Alfonso Carpio \u2018Mijita\u2019<\/strong> will be heard at the Palacio Villavicencio<\/em>, without mics or amplifiers.<\/p>\n

After defining the Festival as a \u201cperfect duality linking culture and tourism\u201d, the mayor added that pe\u00f1as flamencas<\/em> will also take part in this unique event with noon programs which will include an appealing showcase of the local gastronomy. In her opinion, this is an event that provides Jerez with \u201can excellent platform for overseas promotion\u201d, at the same time as positioning flamenco on par with other artistic genres.<\/p>\n

A prestigious festival <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Patricia del Pozo<\/strong>, Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/em>\u2019s Culture and Heritage advisor, pointed out that Jerez is the \u201cinternational cradle of flamenco\u201d and defined this art as \u201can essential element of our cultural identity, an engine for progress and the cornerstone of development and employment\u201d. \u201cFlamenco binds together all the talent and creativity of Andalusia\u201d and it is \u201can element which defines us in the world\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n

She guaranteed that the regional department she leads will keep supporting this event, among other things, because \u201cit combines tradition with innovation, it has turned promising talent into well-established artists, and it has allowed us to enjoy shows which have been acclaimed all over the world\u201d.<\/p>\n

Isamay Benavente<\/strong>, director of the festival, gave thanks to all artists for their effort in creating new productions. It\u2019s a \u201crisk\u201d that is aligned with the lineup of this 24th<\/sup> edition. \u201cOur mindset is to never set aside flamenco\u2019s essence\u201d, she stated, when explaining the unifying thread of the festival\u2019s program.<\/p>\n

The 24th Festival de Jerez \u2014 with admission tickets available for sale as of October 15th<\/sup> \u2014 is publicly sponsored by the Culture and Heritage Council of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, through INAEM (Instituto Nacional de las Artes Esc\u00e9nicas y de la M\u00fasica<\/em>), and privately sponsored by Fundaci\u00f3n Cajasol<\/em> and Bodegas Gonz\u00e1lez-Byass<\/em>. It also has the collaboration of CajaSur<\/em>, Consejo Regulador del Jerez<\/em> and Fundaci\u00f3n SGAE<\/em>. Among the contributing media are Diario de Jerez, Canal Sur Radio, Radio Jerez Cadena Ser<\/em> and the website globalflamenco.com. The first municipal authority thanked them all for their involvement in this project.<\/p>\n
