Noche de las Velas (\u201cNight of the Candles\u201d). Santa Mar\u00eda square, Baeza (Ja\u00e9n). <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>September 13th, 2019.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Picture the atmosphere. A UNESCO World Heritage city like Baeza and more than 20,000 candles lighting up Santa Mar\u00eda Square under the gaze of historic buildings like the Cathedral and the University, witnessing Arc\u00e1ngel\u2019s recital.<\/p>\n<p>The performance started just past 10 PM, with <strong>Dani de Mor\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0on the guitar. The round of <em>cantes<\/em> started with a <em>grana\u00edna<\/em> evoking <strong>Chac\u00f3n<\/strong>, but <em>a palo seco<\/em> (a cappella) and with lots of personality, without steering away from the required notes, even knowing how hard it is to sing without following the guitar. He then seamlessly switched to a sublime composition <em>por tientos<\/em>, while his <em>palmeros<\/em>, <strong>Los Mellis<\/strong>, subtly introduced the rhythm, perfectly accompanying Arc\u00e1ngel\u2019s <em>cante.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hereafter the round of <em>buler\u00edas<\/em> started, sounding very fresh but always evoking the old masters and poets like <strong>Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca<\/strong>\u00a0and his\u00a0<em>Poeta en Nueva York<\/em>. Being a great <em>cantaor<\/em> from Huelva, he could not leave out the fandangos, singing <strong>Cayetano Muriel<\/strong>\u00a0\u2018s <em>fandangos de Lucena<\/em>, as well as M\u00e1laga\u2019s <em>cantes abandolaos<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As the <em>cantes de trilla<\/em> began, and also <em>por seguiriya<\/em>, the young <em>bailaora<\/em> <strong>Luc\u00eda la Pi\u00f1ona<\/strong>, from C\u00e1diz, displayed her skill with a dramatic <em>baile seguiriyero<\/em> in the style of the Jerez school, with hints of the Seville school, too.
