Apparently, no, according to the program. They preferred to organize a round table about the <em>Fundaci\u00f3n Cristina Heeren<\/em>, and a master class by Esperanza Fern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00abDoesn\u2019t a festival with such long tradition deserve a director who thinks about those things?\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Antonio Mairena had three or four teachers, artists he sought to emulate, and <strong>Pastora Pav\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0was essential in his career, more so than her brother Tom\u00e1s, the little brother of that <em>cantaora<\/em> from Seville, because Mairena never sang in the style of Tom\u00e1s, always having a different performing approach. Antonio was greatly influenced by the Pav\u00f3n siblings, which he considered to be Seville\u2019s great family of <em>cantaores<\/em>. He even referred to Arturo, the eldest sibling, as a \u201cgenius\u201d, even as they never got along.<\/p>\n<p>Mairena del Alcor could have dedicated this year\u2019s <em>Festival de Cante Jondo<\/em> to the memory of Pastora in the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of her death and focused the Cultural Week in the relationship between Mairena and the Pav\u00f3n family. Then they get annoyed when we say that this festival has gone astray for years. Doesn\u2019t a festival with such long tradition deserve a director who thinks about those things? Instead of hiring an extra <em>cantaor<\/em>, they could use that money to hire someone with a thinking head<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Translated by P.
