Viva Huelva!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Flamenc\u00f3logos\u00a0<\/em>researching the history of flamenco have always overlooked Huelva, despite the fact that this Andalusian province has given us many artists of great importance since the XIX century. As an example, the famous Dolores Parrales Moreno, <strong><em>La Parrala<\/em><\/strong>, from Moguer, hometown of the great poet Juan Ram\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez. Also her sister Mar\u00eda, the other <em>Parrala<\/em>, although she didn\u2019t achieve the renown of Dolores. Then came, at different stages Pepe Rebollo, Antonio Rengel, the guitarist Manolo de Huelva (from Riotinto), Paco Isidro, the <em>bailaor<\/em>Alejandro Vega (partner of the great Pilar L\u00f3pez), and, closing with a genius of fandango, to not make an endless list, Paco Toronjo. Huelva also had its <em>caf\u00e9 cantantes\u00a0<\/em>of the XIX century, including the one opened by Silverio Franconetti, where many acclaimed flamenco artists performed. When it seemed that the spring of great voices and guitarist had dried out, then came Ni\u00f1o Miguel and Juan Carlos Romero, two great guitarists, and (in <em>cante<\/em>) <strong>Arc\u00e1ngel, Argentina, Roc\u00edo M\u00e1rquez, Guillermo Cano, Jeromo Segura, Jes\u00fas Corbacho<\/strong> and Sebasti\u00e1n Cruz, among others.<\/p>\n<p>No one has yet written about how peculiar it is that Huelva nowadays has more young <em>cantaores<\/em>and<em>cantaoras<\/em>than Seville. The Andalusian capital has spawned the greatest number of flamenco artists, besides being one of the main cradles of the genre, but with the exception of a few masters, Seville doesn\u2019t have young first-rate cante performers such as Arc\u00e1ngel, Roc\u00edo M\u00e1rquez and Argentina, personal tastes aside. In some towns in the province of Seville there are good <em>cantaores\u00a0<\/em>such as <strong>Rubito hijo<\/strong> (in Puebla de Cazalla), <strong>Manuel Castulo<\/strong>, Juan de Mairena and Jos\u00e9 de la Mena (in Mairena del Alcor), <strong>Jos\u00e9 Valencia<\/strong> (in Lebrija), Miguel Ortega (in Los Palacios) and Segundo Falc\u00f3n (in Viso del Alcor), to name just a few. However, Seville itself doesn\u2019t have any high-profile young performer able to represent this school, one of the most important ones, along with Jerez and C\u00e1diz. There are good <em>cantaores<\/em>, but they just perform for <em>baile<\/em>, or have been unable to make it big. Thus, Huelva, land of fandangos, has merit, and I think it would be fair to recognize the importance of a group of young voices giving back the <em>cante\u00a0<\/em>limelight that this beautiful region of Andalucia had in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Now we only need the public institutions of Huelva to better promote the art of flamenco, which they seldom do, at least as a response to the effort of these young artists who give Huelva fame the world over. Arc\u00e1ngel, for instance, is one of <em>cante<\/em>\u2019s top personalities, even as he\u2019s not of everyone\u2019s liking. His latest CD is about to be released, recorded live in some of Spain\u2019s <em>tablaos<\/em>, and that may be the record that the young master needs. Seville could only wish (and I\u2019m from Seville) to have a young\u00a0<em>cante\u00a0<\/em>personality such as Arc\u00e1ngel, who by the way, is a well-liked <em>cantaor\u00a0<\/em>in the city of La Giralda, as it became evident last week, when he got the Reales Alc\u00e1zares\u2019 public at the on their feet, by measuring his beautiful intonations with a choir of Bulgarian voices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flamenc\u00f3logos\u00a0researching the history of flamenco have always overlooked Huelva, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":13928,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[256],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-13930","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bordonazo-new"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Huelva\u2019s got it.
