{"id":13721,"date":"2019-07-05T21:40:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-05T19:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/?p=13721"},"modified":"2019-07-05T21:41:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-05T19:41:11","slug":"expoflamenco-at-olavide-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/en\/bordonazo-new\/expoflamenco-at-olavide-university\/","title":{"rendered":"ExpoFlamenco at Olavide University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, July 5th, my colleagues in ExpoFlamenco, <strong>Luis P\u00e9rez<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Quico P\u00e9rez-Ventana<\/strong>, attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upo.es\/olavideencarmona\/cursos-de-verano\/\">Summer Courses of the Pablo de Olavide University<\/a>, in Carmona (Seville province), where <strong>Merche Esmeralda<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Inmaculada Bustos<\/strong>\u00a0were going to speak about something related to the course, the role of women in flamenco. One of the participants, <strong>\u00c1ngeles Cruzado<\/strong>, was surprised to see them there because, as she told them, in ExpoFlamenco we\u2019re not very enthusiastic about the flamenco feminist movement, but that\u2019s not true.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s me, and not the website, who questions certain aspects of this movement. It\u2019s true that I\u2019m the website\u2019s content director, but all contributors have the freedom to express their opinions, as it\u2019s the case with Luis P\u00e9rez, and also to go where they please, as it was the case yesterday. I was invited, but I didn\u2019t attend for two reasons: because I\u2019m still unable to walk, and because I will never go to a course about women in flamenco where men are left out. And whose director, <strong>Ildefonso Vergara<\/strong>, stated to the media that \u201cflamenco was a world of men\u201d, while this isn\u2019t true. Flamenco has never been an art belonging exclusively to men. It\u2019s not so in our days, and it will never be.<\/p>\n<p>In ExpoFlamenco we provide information as well as opinions, and there is total freedom for both things. Thus, it\u2019s unacceptable that \u00c1ngeles Cruzado would feel surprised to see in this course Luis P\u00e9rez and Quico P\u00e9rez-Ventana. They attended, indeed, because it was an interesting course, and we are interested in every course promoting flamenco. We are a website deeply committed to this art and a trusted reference in information and opinion about flamenco. A website where an article by \u00c1ngeles Cruzado about the role of woman in flamenco was published \u2014 at my request, incidentally \u2014 because she is an expert in this topic. She wrote what she felt like, and we didn\u2019t change anything at all because here we respect everyone\u2019s opinion, particularly those of our contributors.<\/p>\n<p>The topic of women in flamenco is at its peak, it\u2019s current events and we provide information and also opinions. We may certainly have made mistakes sometimes, but our readers can be sure that it would only have been that, honest mistakes, without any attempt to manipulate or to silence anyone\u2019s opinion. I cannot conceive flamenco without women, and it would be senseless even trying to disregard the value of all that women have contributed to this art through its history, not only the artists but also <em>aficionadas<\/em>, writers and researchers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The topic of women in flamenco is at its peak.
