Miguel Salado<\/strong>, guitarist from Jerez, mentioned in some statements for a TV program that it was \u00abvery important to teach the younger generations\u00bb regarding the traditional disregard of the masses towards flamenco guitar concerts. It seems that this idea is the basis of the Festival Internacional de Guitarra Flamenca de Jerez<\/em><\/strong>. Today is the start of the second edition of a festival which first took place in 2018, when over ten tocaores <\/em>came to Jerez\u2019s Alc\u00e1zar for a weekend, intent of asserting the worth of their generation. Diego del Morao, Antonio Rey, Juan Diego Mateos, Alfredo Lagos, Jos\u00e9 Quevedo \u2018Bolita\u2019, Javier Patino, Jos\u00e9 Ignacio Franco, Paco Lara, Javier Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez, Paco Le\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Santiago Lara<\/strong> were there, the later also being one of the organizers of the event. They took the opportunity to honor maestro<\/em>\u00a0Balao<\/strong>, and also Paco Cepero<\/strong>. There was a festive atmosphere for the lovers of flamenco guitar to enjoy priceless musical hours with such outstanding representatives of this genre.<\/p>\n

The thing is that something unusual happens in Jerez: four different generations of guitarists coexist. From Manuel Morao<\/strong>\u00a0and Paco Cepero (still active) to\u00a0Fernando del Morao<\/strong>, who is starting to gather acclaim. Among them we find names such as Periqu\u00edn Ni\u00f1o Jero, Manuel Parrilla<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Juan Manuel Moneo<\/strong>, from various age groups.<\/p>\n

To understand this adventure, we must get to Mario Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, known by everyone as the owner of the Guarida del \u00c1ngel<\/em>, the renowned venue of the parallel \u201coff\u201d program during the Festival de Jerez. There, in that venue on Porvenir Street, the Javier Molina Contest took place last year, its \u20ac 1,500 prize won by the young \u00c1lvaro Mora<\/strong>, from Moguer. This year, the contest was organized by Pe\u00f1a Buena Gente<\/a>, which hosted the contest final round on the evening of July 4th<\/sup>, with a prestigious jury: Paco Cepero, Santi Lara, Manuel Valencia and Bolita. After selecting over 30 contestants from countries as dissimilar as Taiwan or Costa Rica, the finalists for the first prize were Antonio Garc\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez, 15, from Almer\u00eda;\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Zarco Navas<\/strong>, 19, from Barcelona; Manuel Cerpa Gonz\u00e1lez, 16, from Chipiona (C\u00e1diz province); and\u00a0Antonio Gonz\u00e1lez Reyes<\/strong>, 20, also from Chipiona. The winner was Manuel Cerpa Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, who took the \u20ac 1.200 prize plus a Javier Mej\u00edas<\/strong>\u00a0artisan guitar valued at \u20ac 4.000. The other participants received a secondary prize of \u20ac 300 each.<\/p>\n

Besides, the jury decided to award an honorary prize to the \u2018Best toque por buler\u00edas<\/em>\u2019 \u00abhighlighting his sense of rhythm and flamenco feel\u00bb, to Antonio Garc\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, who will receive a set of Knobloch musical products as a gift.<\/p>\n

On July 5th, the festival continues with a concert by Jos\u00e9 Carlos G\u00f3mez<\/strong>, from Algeciras, who will bring to the Claustros de Santo Domingo<\/em> \u2014 the venue was changed from last year \u2014 his work Origen<\/em>. This guitarist has shared experiences with a fellow guitarist from Algeciras, Paco de Luc\u00eda<\/strong>, the most universal of all times, and also with others such as Alejandro Sanz\u2026\u00a0 His sound is wide, restless and close to other folk music. The following evening, July 6th<\/sup>, will be the turn of Manuel Valencia<\/strong>, from Jerez. He\u2019s well known as accompanist for cante<\/em>, performing with Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez, Macanita, Vicente Soto and David Carpio (who is invited as a guest), and also being part of Manuel Li\u00f1\u00e1n\u2019s company in the last few years, but it\u2019s necessary to acknowledge his worth as concert guitarist. The presentation of his first album, Entre mis manos<\/em>, earned him a Giraldillo <\/em>prize in the category \u201cRevelation Artist\u201d in the 2014 Bienal de Sevilla<\/em>.<\/p>\n
