Among these many families, we have the Carpio, surname which is also well represented in Seville but whose most renowned <em>cantaores<\/em> and <em>bailaores<\/em> are from Jerez. If the artists of the <strong>Zambo, Sordera<\/strong>\u00a0or <strong>Terremoto<\/strong> dynasties are the standard bearers of the Santiago district, the surname that is the subject of this article keeps alive the most expressive <em>duende<\/em> of La Plazuela, that charming corner of the San Miguel district. Without meaning to detail the genealogy of this renowned family, we must first mention <strong>Alfonso Carpio Montoya \u2018El Berenjeno\u2019<\/strong>, father of the unforgettable <strong>Manuel Carpio Gallardo \u2018El Garbanzo\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0(rest in peace), of Alfonso (in the picture above), better known as <strong>\u2018El Mijita\u2019<\/strong>, a good <em>festero<\/em> and even better <em>por sole\u00e1<\/em>, and of <strong>\u2019Ao\u00f1o\u2019<\/strong> \u2014 with that great personality in the parties \u2014 among other siblings. Uncle Alfonso, as <strong>Manuel Moneo<\/strong>\u00a0and the rest of the family used to call him \u2014 Manuel was his nephew as his mother Mena was from the Lara Carpio family \u2014, married <strong>Mar\u00eda \u2018La Chal\u00e1\u2019,<\/strong>\u00a0who was as graceful as the sea.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fair to point out that these days many members of this family regularly perform on well-known stages, and they\u2019ll keep performing through 2019. At least three new albums are scheduled to be released by this family. First, we have <strong>Alfonso Carpio Fern\u00e1ndez \u2018Mijita Hijo\u2019<\/strong>, who will present his new CD <em>El Palacio de Cristal<\/em>\u00a0on July 19<sup>th<\/sup>, in the <em>Viernes Flamencos<\/em> series, an album which represents a comeback in style for this artist who experienced great success in the 1990s. His brother <strong>Jos\u00e9<\/strong>, also nicknamed <strong>\u2018Mijita\u2019<\/strong>, is about to release his album <em>Albariza<\/em>, recorded live among friends at the \u2018El Majuelo\u2019 vineyard. Another artist of this family who is at a great level is <strong>David Carpio<\/strong>, grandson of <strong>Antonio Carpio Montoya<\/strong>\u00a0(brother of \u2018Berenjeno\u2019), who continues having great success with his album <em>Con la voz en la tierra <\/em>as his travels the world in prestigious companies such as that of <strong>Manuel Li\u00f1\u00e1n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antonio Pe\u00f1a Carpio \u2018El Tolo\u2019<\/strong>, another grandson of \u2018Berenjeno\u2019, also wished to go back to the recording studio. Accompanied by the guitar of <strong>Domingo Rubichi<\/strong>, this artist who is still part of <strong>Mar\u00eda del Mar Moreno<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Antonio Malena<\/strong>\u2019s company <em>Jerez Puro<\/em>\u00a0strives to stand out with humility and simplicity, and before the year is over, he\u2019ll release his yet-untitled album. Sadly, we can no longer talk or write about <strong>Juanillorro<\/strong>, the <em>cantaor <\/em>and (great) <em>bailaor<\/em> who left his family speechless with his sudden death, but there\u2019s his cousin <strong>Manuela Carpio<\/strong>. This <em>bailaora<\/em>, granddaughter of <strong>Manuel Carpio Montoya<\/strong>\u00a0(brother of Alfonso and Antonio, mentioned above) and niece of <strong>Jali<\/strong> (a renowned <em>bailaor por buler\u00edas<\/em> who already passed away) reappeared with great success in the current edition of Madrid\u2019s Suma Flamenca. This lady of Gypsy baile performed with her cousin <strong>Israel de Juanillorro<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Iv\u00e1n de la Manuela<\/strong>\u00a0(among the youngest in the family). There are also the siblings <strong>Ta\u00f1\u00e9, Manuel<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Tamara<\/strong>, who also have their roots in Jerez and who have substantially improved, being greatly appreciated and beloved.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday June 26, we learned that <strong>Jos\u00e9 Montoya Carpio \u2018El Berenjeno\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0 (born in Jerez in 1994) won the <em>Concurso Talento Flamenco de Cante \u2018Naranjito de Triana\u2019 2019<\/em> , worth 1400 euros.
