While we still savour the memories of the 20th<\/sup>,Bienal de Flamenco<\/em><\/a>, its 21st<\/sup> edition, which will take place between September 4th<\/sup> and October 4th<\/sup>, 2020, is already being planned. Besides, it will have as its focus the poet Gustavo Adolfo B\u00e9cquer, who was born in Seville in 1836. This was announced in the award ceremony of the Giraldillo<\/em> prizes from the 20th<\/sup> Bienal de Flamenco<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00abIn the year 2020, we\u2019ll celebrate important anniversaries for flamenco and for Seville. It will be 150 years since the death of the father of Spanish contemporary poetry, Gustavo Adolfo B\u00e9cquer<\/strong>, to whom the next Bienal will be dedicated. And our Bienal itself will celebrate its 40th<\/sup> anniversary, as we continue to promote flamenco and the talent of our artists, working to open up our festival as much as possible and to make it reach all corners of the city so the whole of Seville can experience the Bienal\u00bb, explained Antonio Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong>, the City Council<\/a>,\u2019s delegate for Human Habitat, Culture and Tourism.<\/p>\n

B\u00e9cquer, present at Seville\u2019s 21<\/strong>st<\/sup><\/strong> Flamenco Bienal<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Besides the pleasant surprise of the tribute to B\u00e9cquer in this renowned event, we also learn about the opening event of the 21st<\/sup> Bienal de Flamenco. As usual, it will be a spectacular flashmob<\/em>, but this time it will be to the tune of some sevillanas<\/em> by the great Rafael Riqueni<\/strong>. \u201cWe choose sevillanas<\/em> to highlight the role that Seville and its people played in the revaluation of a social event that in the middle of the 19th<\/sup> century wasn\u2019t considered to have any cultural value at all. \u00a0In our days, Riqueni represents the mastery in the six-string instrument as the Seville style among the various schools of flamenco\u201d, stated the director of the Bienal,\u00a0Antonio Zoido<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Riqueni representa, en estos momentos, la maestr\u00eda en el instrumento de las seis cuerdas como el estilo sevillano dentro de las m\u00faltiples escuelas flamencas\u201d, argumenta el director de la Bienal,\u00a0Antonio Zoido<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thus, Riqueni continues the path started by other artists in previous bienales<\/em>, which featured shows by Rafaela Carrasco<\/strong>,\u00a0Pastora Galv\u00e1n<\/strong>,\u00a0Farruquito<\/strong> and\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Gal\u00e1n<\/strong>, among others, although having the distinctive element of sevillanas, as the previous editions had an integrating flashmob<\/em> and a choreography por buler\u00edas<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Giraldillos of the 20<\/strong>th<\/sup><\/strong> Bienal de Sevilla<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The award ceremony of the Giraldillos <\/em>of the 20th<\/sup> Bienal took place on May 23rd<\/sup> at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Sevilla<\/a>\u00a0(Fibes). The award-winning artists were Lole Montoya<\/strong>\u00a0(cante),\u00a0Ana Morales<\/strong>\u00a0(baile),\u00a0Santiago Lara <\/strong>(toque),\u00a0Una oda al tiempo<\/em>, of the\u00a0Compa\u00f1\u00eda Mar\u00eda Pag\u00e9s<\/strong>\u00a0(best show), bailaora\u00a0Mar\u00eda Moren<\/strong>\u00a0(revelation),\u00a0Tomatito<\/strong>\u00a0(Giraldillo<\/em> \u201cCity of Seville\u201d for his lifetime career achievements),\u00a0\u00a0Isabel Bay\u00f3n\u2019s <\/strong>Yo Soy<\/em>\u00a0(special Giraldillo<\/em> by the jury),\u00a0de\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Quevedo \u2018Bolita\u2019 <\/strong>Ca\u00f3tico<\/em> \u00a0(Giraldillo<\/em> prizing dialogue with other musical genres) and\u00a0Ballet Flamenco de Andaluc\u00eda<\/strong>\u00a0(special Giraldillo<\/em> for their 25th<\/sup> anniversary).<\/p>\n
