Last August 4<sup>th<\/sup>, another great <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaor<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">died, El Canela de San Roque, adding to a long list of <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">losses that gives us the shivers. Canela wasn\u2019t a <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaor<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">of the mainstream media, but the social networks were bursting, certainly because he died young yet, of a serious illness, a terrible cancer. And also because lately there seems to be a great interest for the genuine, pure <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaores<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">like Canela, as a backlash against so much commercial flamenco. The same also happened when another phenomenon died, El Torta, a brilliant <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaor<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">from Jerez. The best ones keep leaving us, those who thrilled our true senses, the pure and sincere <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaores<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">for whom money didn&#8217;t trump the authenticity of their styles. Will <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">resist the drain of these irreplaceable losses? Without a doubt, yes. <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Cante<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">always survives, because <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">is above the<\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaores<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">themselves. <\/span><em><span lang=\"ES-VE\">Cante<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"ES-VE\">survived when Silverio Franconetti, Tom\u00e1s el Nitri, Chac\u00f3n, Manuel Torres, la Ni\u00f1a de los Peines, Tom\u00e1s Pav\u00f3n, Manolo Caracol, Antonio Mairena, Enrique Morente and Camar\u00f3n passed away. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The geniuses leave, but they leave us their work, which is what make the geniuses immortal. And their works stay here, like a school for other performers, as a reference for other geniuses, for the study and analysis of flamenco critics and <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">flamenc\u00f3logos<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">. It has always been like that, and it will always be, forever and ever, amen. Fortunately, in <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante jondo<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">there is a new generation of artists, of good performers, witnessing to that truth. I will forget some, but watch out for Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez, Rancapino Chico, David Palomar, Samuel Serrano, Antonio Reyes, Pedro el Grana\u00edno, La Yiya, To\u00f1i Fern\u00e1ndez, Anabel Valencia, Roc\u00edo M\u00e1rquez or Marina Heredia. They, among others, have the obligation to move forward this art of <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante jondo<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">, which will never die with the death of their performers, be them geniuses or not, just like filmmaking doesn\u2019t die with the deaths of actors, or like bullfighting doesn\u2019t die with the death of bullfighters. Each genius puts on a brick in this unending building that is <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante flamenco<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">, which has deep foundations, solidly anchored to the earth. Lets cry for the <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaores\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">and <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cantaoras\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">who leave us, but let\u2019s not cry for the <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">, because the <\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">cante\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">never dies.
