The act was led by <strong>Pedro L\u00f3pez Mil\u00e1n<\/strong>, president of the <em>Fundaci\u00f3n Cante de las Minas <\/em>and mayor of La Uni\u00f3n. L\u00f3pez Mil\u00e1n was joined by Blanca del Rey, owner and artistic director of the Corral de la Morer\u00eda, and Juan Manuel del Rey, its manager. Francisco Javier Jim\u00e9nez, delegate of the Government of the Murcia Region, and <strong>Alba Heredia<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>El Pele<\/strong>, two artists who will perform in the festival\u2019s galas, were also present.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abA different festival born in strength at La Uni\u00f3n in 1961, product of hardships, with the sole mission of protecting those <em>cantes de levante<\/em>, which have attracted the best flamenco artists from its early days. A <em>tablao<\/em> which will bring a lot of success to its winners\u00bb, stated Pedro L\u00f3pez Mil\u00e1n at the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Awards of the 59<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong> edition<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The <em>Fundaci\u00f3n Cante de las Minas<\/em> has awarded the <strong>2019 Honorific <em>Desplante<\/em><\/strong> prize to the above-mentioned <strong>Blanca del Rey<\/strong>\u00a0for her contribution to the festival. One of her biggest efforts was splitting the 2018 <em>Desplante<\/em> prize into male and female categories. \u00abI\u2019ve suffered much for many years seeing how unjust it was that male and female dancers competed with each other, because anyone who dances does so with freedom\u00bb, stated Del Rey.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Castillete de Oro<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 the highest accolade awarded to personalities who have promoted flamenco art \u2014 was given to <strong>Jos\u00e9 Dom\u00ednguez \u2018El Cabrero\u2019<\/strong>, an artist who, despite being one of the great stars of <em>cante jondo<\/em> since 1980, still works as a goat herder (<em>cabrero<\/em>). The Asturias Central Brigade of Mining Rescue was given the same award, due to its heroic work in mining accidents and subterranean rescues.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, the Republic of Argentina was awarded the prize <strong>Catedral del Cante<\/strong>\u00a0through its capital, Buenos Aires, for its role as a flamenco reference in South America. The Foundation highlighted great similitudes between flamenco and tango, which is also one of the basic <em>palos <\/em>with particular styles in Granada, C\u00e1diz, Jerez, M\u00e1laga and Triana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Program of the 59<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong> <em>Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The 59<sup>th<\/sup> edition of this festival opens on Wednesday, July 31<sup>st<\/sup>, with the <em>Jornada Pr\u00f3logo Gala de La Uni\u00f3n<\/em>, to be held at the Old Public Market, featuring the <strong><em>Agrupaci\u00f3n Musical La Uni\u00f3n<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><em>Cora Argentum<\/em><\/strong>, who will perform the hymn of La Uni\u00f3n, and the <strong><em>Rondalla y Coro del Hogar de la 3\u00aa Edad<\/em><\/strong>, who will perform the hymn of the festival. The <strong><em>Escuela de Baile Artedanza<\/em> <\/strong>will also perform. This gala will be closed by <strong>\u00d3scar de Manuel<\/strong>\u00a0with La Uni\u00f3n musical ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>On Thurdsay, August 1<sup>st<\/sup>, <strong>A\u00edda G\u00f3mez<\/strong>, <em>pregonera <\/em>of the 59<sup>th<\/sup> <em>Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas<\/em>, will open the Inaugural Gala by reading the <em>preg\u00f3n<\/em>. This will be followed by performances of the winners in the last edition of the festival: <strong>Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Carrasco<\/strong>\u00a0(awarded the <em>L\u00e1mpara Minera<\/em>),\u00a0<strong>Andr\u00e9s Barrios<\/strong>\u00a0(awarded the <em>Fil\u00f3n piano<\/em>),\u00a0<strong>Agust\u00edn Carbonel<\/strong>\u00a0(awarded the <em>Bord\u00f3n Minero<\/em>),\u00a0<strong>M\u00f3nica Iglesias<\/strong>\u00a0(awarded the <em>Desplante femenino<\/em>),\u00a0<strong>Hugo L\u00f3pez<\/strong>\u00a0(awarded the <em>Desplante masculino<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>La Uni\u00f3n\u2019s Public Market will host the first <em>Gala Flamenca<\/em> of the 59<sup>th<\/sup> edition on Friday, August 2nd, with performances by <strong>Samuel Serrano<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 <em>Un viaje a la tradici\u00f3n \u2014 <\/em>and\u00a0<strong>El Cabrero<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 <em>Ni rienda ni jierro encima<\/em>. On Saturday, August 3rd, La Uni\u00f3n will welcome <strong>Pasi\u00f3n Vega<\/strong>\u2019s special concert <em>40 quilates \u00edntimo<\/em>,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alba Heredia<\/strong>\u2018s and <strong>El Pele<\/strong>\u2018s <em>galas flamencas<\/em> (<em>Sentimiento en el alma<\/em> and <em>Peleando<\/em>, respectively) will take place on Sunday, August 4<sup>th<\/sup>. On Monday, August 5<sup>th<\/sup> <strong>Jeromo Segura<\/strong>\u00a0will perform <em>Lo que yo quer\u00eda <\/em>and\u00a0<strong>Jos\u00e9 Merc\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0will perform <em>Merce Flamenco<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The evening of Tuesday, August 6<sup>th<\/sup>, <em>Flamenco en la Mina <\/em>returns. \u00a0<em>La Mina Agrupa Vicenta<\/em> will host the performance by the winner of the 2015 <em>L\u00e1mpara Minera<\/em> award, <strong>Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 P\u00e9rez<\/strong>. Next, on the stage of the Public Market, the galas will be back, with <strong>Pedro El Grana\u00edno<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 <em>Grana\u00edno Jondo \u2014<\/em> and <strong>Farruquito<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014<em>Improvisao<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The semifinal galas of the contest which will reveal the prizes awarded by the Festival del Cante de las Minas \u2014 <em>L\u00e1mpara minera<\/em>, <em>Bord\u00f3n<\/em>, <em>Fil\u00f3n <\/em>and <em>Desplante<\/em> \u2014 will take place on Wednesday 7<sup>th<\/sup>, Thursday 8<sup>th<\/sup> and Friday 9<sup>th<\/sup> of August. The final gala, reveling the winners of the prizes in all categories in the 59<sup>th<\/sup> edition of this festival, will be held on Saturday, August 10<sup>th<\/sup> at La Uni\u00f3n Public Market.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abThe festival belongs to everyone and we need the support from all administrations. From them we must defend and preserve flamenco\u00bb, explained Pedro L\u00f3pez Mil\u00e1n.
