The world premiere of Flamenco Cardinal. S\u00faplica de amor\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has taken place in Tokyo, Japan. This is the most recent production of Eva Yerbabuena<\/strong>, and it completes D\u00edptico del Encuentro<\/em>, together with Cuentos de Az\u00facar<\/em><\/strong>, which commemorates the 500th<\/sup> anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world in 1519<\/p>\n

This new production speaks about \u201cthe main things, the essential things, and it’s also about the four cardinal points of flamenco: we all start with rumbas<\/em> and sevillanas<\/em>, then we get deeper into saetas<\/em>, vidalitas<\/em> or zambras<\/em>\u201d, stated the artist to the EFE news agency. \u201cIt\u2019s precisely inspired in what\u2019s essential when it comes to create a show, when it comes to live life. Love is essential\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I stepped into an academy, I started with sevillanas<\/em> and the rumba Maruja Lim\u00f3n<\/em>, and now I\u2019m working with those once again\u201d, explained Yerbabuena. With Flamenco Cardinal<\/em> she explores overcoming the distance between people, from our initial need to find ourselves.<\/p>\n

This is the second part of D\u00edptico Encuentro<\/em><\/strong>. it includes palos flamencos<\/em> such as sole\u00e1s, vidalitas<\/em> and saetas<\/em>. But there\u2019s much more. It starts with a rumba<\/em> and ends with and adaptation of\u00a0Jacques Brel<\/strong>\u2019s Ne me quitte pas<\/em>. \u201cAlfredo Tejada sings it, very flamenco, very beautiful\u201d, says Eva.<\/p>\n

Before the presentation of Flamenco Cardinal<\/em>, Eva Yerbabuena will tour Tokyo and Osaka with her\u00a0Cuentos de Az\u00facar<\/em>, a show created to weave stories using flamenco to intermix and traverse frontiers. This production was premiered in Spain in July 2018. On stage, it puts Eva Yerbabuena dance company together with the traditional chants of the Amami Japanese island and the region of Karou Watanabe, performed by Anna Sato<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not fusion, but a weaving of cultures. I dance when they sing and play, and all the workshops we\u2019ve made with those instruments are brought on stage. This is also a tribute to Japan, because it\u2019s a country where I\u2019ve experienced flamenco for many years\u201d, stated this bailaora<\/em> regarding Cuentos de Az\u00facar<\/em>. Both shows feature music by Paco Jarana<\/strong>, who also plays the guitar, and the cante<\/em> of Miguel Ortega\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Alfredo Tejada<\/strong>, winner of the 2017 \u201cL\u00e1mpara Minera<\/em>\u201d prize.<\/p>\n

This is the tenth tour that Eva does in Japan. The first one took place in the 1990s, and she stayed six months showing her talent in that country. She says that she had to get married to be able to go to Japan, which was a condition her father imposed before allowing her to travel with her then-boyfriend. She arrived in Japan with the guitarist Paco Jarana, her artistic and professional partner.<\/p>\n

Eva Yerbabuena is clear about the reason this art is so popular in Japan, which is considered by many the second homeland of flamenco. \u201cThey know each cante<\/em>, each style, each toque<\/em> (\u2026). It\u2019s impressive\u201d, says this choreographer. \u201cWhat I really like about flamenco, what gives me the goosebumps\u201d \u2014 she adds \u2014 \u201cis it\u2019s depth, and they (the Japanese people) have it. They are extremely deep, so much so that it\u2019s very hard for them to externalize their feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n
