Olmo, who was awarded the 2015 <em>Premio Nacional de Danza<\/em> \u2014 in the interpretation category \u2014 succeeds <strong>Antonio Najarro<\/strong>, who has been director for eight years, and will take over in September.<\/p>\n<p>Rub\u00e9n Olmo is the second artist from Seville to direct the <em>Ballet Nacional de Espa\u00f1a<\/em>. The first one was <strong>Antonio Ruiz Soler<\/strong>, who in 1980 succeeded <strong>Antonio Gades<\/strong>. Olmo is more a <em>bailar\u00edn <\/em>(dancer) than <em>bailaor<\/em>, in the words of our director <a href=\"http:\/\/elcorreoweb.es\/opinion\/columnas\/un-nino-de-las-tres-mil-ED5173978?fbclid=IwAR0cNPkv5JvgiYH5qZFD3i4PZ--U7B2kDWqD8HETGWDVl0xhUcPGWcwJb1M\">Manuel Boh\u00f3rquez<\/a>. Or, as <strong>Joaqu\u00edn Cort\u00e9s<\/strong>\u00a0would say, <em>bailar\u00f3n<\/em>, as he would call those who were not just a <em>bailaor <\/em>or a <em>bailar\u00edn<\/em>, but both things. It\u2019s possible that, from now on, we\u2019ll be able to see \u201ca bit of <em>pelllizco<\/em> at the <em>Ballet Nacional<\/em>\u201d, says Boh\u00f3rquez. The fact is that Rub\u00e9n Olmo is well respected among <em>flamencos<\/em>, and he was even awarded the <em>Premio de la Cr\u00edtica<\/em> at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/cronicas\/ruben-olmo-se-corona-en-este-festival-de-jerez-con-horas-contigo\">23<sup>rd<\/sup> Festival de Jerez<\/a>\u00a0for his show\u00a0<em>Horas contigo<\/em>. The new director of the BNE was born in Seville\u2019s <em>Las Tres Mil Viviendas<\/em> district and grew up in the <em>Cerro del \u00c1guila<\/em> neighborhood. When he was fourteen years old, he joined the <em>Compa\u00f1\u00eda Andaluza de Danza<\/em>, which at the time was directed by <strong>Mar\u00eda Pag\u00e9s<\/strong>. His artistic debut happened when he was sixteen years old, mentored by <strong>Javier Bar\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>El p\u00e1jaro negro,<\/em> and he joined the BNE when he was eighteen, performing leading roles in productions such as <em>Luz del alma\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>La Celestina<\/em>. In 2002, he quit the <em>Ballet Nacional<\/em> to be part of the company of <strong>Eva Yerbabuena<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For this project, Olmo has set two goals. First, preserving and promoting the Spanish dance heritage, opening the BNE to the new trends in dance and flamenco.
