{"id":10498,"date":"2018-02-26T11:13:16","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T10:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/?p=10498"},"modified":"2019-03-16T11:14:40","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T10:14:40","slug":"jose-canela-unanimously-acclaimed-at-casa-del-arte-flamenco-antonio-mairena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expoflamenco.com\/archivo\/en\/chronicles\/jose-canela-unanimously-acclaimed-at-casa-del-arte-flamenco-antonio-mairena\/","title":{"rendered":"Jos\u00e9 Canela unanimously acclaimed at Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201c<i>Viernes Jondos<\/i>\u201d series, showcasing the winners of the\u00a0<i>Concurso Nacional de\u00a0Cante\u00a0Jondo Antonio Mairena<\/i>, was back last Friday, February 23rd, at the\u00a0<i>Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena<\/i>\u00a0with the fourth performance of its third edition, featuring the\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Segovia\u00a0<i>Jos\u00e9 Canela<\/i><sup>1<\/sup>, accompanied by the guitar of\u00a0<i>El Perla<\/i>. the stage of this\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1a<\/i>\u00a0in Mairena has already featured Inmaculada Rivero, Jos\u00e9 Parrondo and Rubio de Pruna.<\/p>\n<p>After the obligatory introduction by Manuel Jim\u00e9nez R\u00edos (president of the\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1a<\/i>), the\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0from San Roque, flanked by his guitarist from Seville\u2019s Macarena district, got on stage at 10 PM to begin a recital which got better and better, for the great pleasure of the flamenco aficionados who packed the venue. He started with\u00a0<i>canti\u00f1as<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>alegr\u00edas<\/i>, repeating several well-liked verses, showing right off the bat not only Canela Hijo\u2019s graceful command of the\u00a0<i>cantes de comp\u00e1s<\/i>, but also his firm and serene voice.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0then introduced his second\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>: \u201c<i>Por sole\u00e1<\/i>\u201d, what prompted a member of the public to cheer spontaneously \u201cRemember your father, singing\u00a0<i>por sole\u00e1<\/i>!\u201d, as the\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0quipped \u201cCan\u2019t do otherwise!\u201d. He also sang\u00a0<i>por tientos<\/i>\u00a0and then\u00a0<i>por seguiriyas<\/i>, completely captivating the whole venue. It\u2019s not that anyone doubted Jos\u00e9\u2019s zeal for purity at this stage, yet his passion for traditional\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>\u00a0moves and overwhelms in equal parts. El Perla was also outstanding, with his clean and highly skilled\u00a0<i>toque<\/i>, which always matched the intensity and tempo of the\u00a0<i>cantaor<\/i>\u00a0from C\u00e1diz.<\/p>\n<p>The second-to-last\u00a0<i>cante<\/i>\u00a0chosen by Canela was\u00a0<i>buler\u00eda por sole\u00e1<\/i>, closing\u00a0<i>por buler\u00edas<\/i>, with the public giving the recital a standing ovation. At the bar of the\u00a0<i>pe\u00f1a<\/i>, the opinions were unanimous and some dared to say that Jos\u00e9 Canela\u2019s recital was the best ever seen in the whole\u00a0<i>Viernes Jondos<\/i>\u00a0series.
