Ketama are back: they’re not so crazy

After reuniting, the mythical band from Granada relaunches 'De akí a Ketama', the album that propelled them to fame two decades ago.

Ketama are back. Fourteen years after their breakup, the brothers Juan José and Antonio Carmona, and their cousin Josemi are again in charge of the band which was without a doubt the most representative of the so-called Flamenco Fusión or Nuevo Flamenco. As they themselves confirmed in a recent press conference, what prompted their reunification was the very serious illness that Antonio happily overcame a few months ago. The cause was eagerness to get back together. The reason was that “we’re not crazy, we got together because we wanted to”.

The first visible result of their return to the music scene is the relaunch of their sixth album, De akí a Ketama (Universal, 1995), which was awarded a Premio Ondas for best album of the year. More than one million copies were, sold, something impossible in our days. It was a live album with an unparalleled band and an unmatched cast of contributing artists, such as the bailaorAntonio Canales and the greatly missed Antonio Flores and Antonio Vega.

The album has been totally remastered with new arrangements and the participation of Pablo Alborán in El problema, and Jorge Drexler in Vente pa Madrid. It also includes a song by Antonio Vega, Ángel caído. The single chosen for its presentation was the new track Loko de amor, written by Rubén Rada. For this relaunch, the three members of the Habichuela clan chose the Universal studios on the mythical Abbey Road in London. De akí a Ketama Ed. Deluxe has been on sale since January 25th.

The relaunch of this album has been the starting gun for their tour No estamos locos on tour 2019 (“We’re Not Crazy on Tour 2019”), which starts in Granada on February 23rdand ends in Córdoba on May 4th, after stopping in the main cities of Spain.
